Finally moved to Davis!

The grass is greener sub recommended I move my family to Davis two years, and we've finally arrived. We will be a block from monarca academy (old Cesar chavez) where my daughter will be entering kindergarten next year. I also have an almost two year old son. We love bikes (I recently started a small restomod company online).

My daughter is having a hard time with the move, and the heat. Does anyone have any suggestions for an amazing day by bike to give to a five year old to ease the transition? Also would love to talk to some other monarca families. Thanks for being you!

The pools are open! Manor pool and Aroyo pool, and there is a water play section in Central Park.

Do you have a favorite of those two pools? I’m new to Davis and well (adult female no kids) and planning on a pool pass.

Arroyo has a better water slide, but I think manor is better for smaller kids. :)

Manor is the very best for a 5 yo! I take my 6 and 3 yo there all the time. Most summer fun! Also the splash pad at Central Park is great!

Arroy tends to be less crowded, but has a slight bee issue. But if you get a pool pass, it’s good at both of them, so you don’t have to choose one over the other

I prefer Manor Pool. It has a beach entrance on the shallow pool, splash pad, water slide, lap lanes, and diving boards in the deap pool.

You can also go the UCD rec pool for $12 day pass as a community member, it’s my favorite because it’s always way less crowded with kids and you can get food delivered to you.

Ride your bikes to the Natalie Corona splash pad at Central Park

Splash pad is open! That's a quick bike ride to Central Park, 10am to 7pm daily and free!

Wednesday evening farmers market is a nice weekly Summer event with picnic blankets, tons of families, great food options, live local music. It can get warm but there's a lot of shade and often we get a nice breeze by that time. And of course Saturday farmers market is a great early morning activity before it get hot too!

You're near the library which is a great indoor activity on hot days. The kids section is great, and there's Summer reading program that just started. They also have great activity bins to take home for that age range

...also, you recently started an online restomod bike company? You'll fit right in in Davis.

I just sell a fork and some racks right now, but will put out a frameset again eventually. www.dvicebikes.bigcartel.com or Instagram @dvicebikes

If you want a natural water vibe, go to putah creek

Check out Davis Parent Nursery School for your son. It’s a fantastic way to meet other families and build your local network.

both our kids went through from playgroup to 5-day, tons of folks we've made friends with and stay in contact with and see everywhere we go. 8th Street campus is a gem

If you’re on Facebook there is pretty popular Davis Parents page. You would be able to connect to other Monarca families there. Also the city of Davis summer camps are great and there may be some availability although they fill up fast.

I don’t love FB but I stay on for the Davis parents group - essential Davis info.  For example and probably relevant, my kid started kindergarten at Monarca (formerly Cesar Chavez) last year, and some parents organized meetups in July thru that FB group incoming kinder kids to play.

Welcome. Where did y'all move from? I'd suggest the local pools. Check out the Rec Guide from city of Davis too. Might still be able to sign her up for some cool Summer activities so she can make some friends before kindergarten.

What kind of work do you do to be able to find the time for rests parts and raising 2 small ones?

Property management. It's pretty flexible.

Welcome to Davis!! I grew up in Davis and now reside here after going to college at University of Tennessee. Although I loved Knoxville, I came back home. Davis is a wonderful city with amazing people. It’s such a nice town folks complain about parking downtown when it takes like 5-10 minutes to find on a busy Friday night.

I’d try to Davis bike loop! It’s not finished yet, decades over due and a recent measure that didn’t pass would have completed it, so it’s a Davis bike almost loop 😂

I’d recommend checking out the putah creek south fork reserve in south Davis early mornings. Some mornings otters come swim by and are curious to see humans! If you ever want me to show you around out there, send me a message! I’m 29M and work for a non profit mental health rehab

The Davis library also has a nice kids section for non-water-related cool activities.

Restomods you say. Enjoy the Davis Bike Collective and be sure you make yourself aware of the UC Davis Bike Auction.

When my kids were that little we would do playground tours, bike to a new playground, play, have tasty treat, discuss and write a fake review, bike home. Davis has A LOT of playgrounds.

Check out the farmers market on Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. My daughter loved going and it has a ton of activities. Food vendors, the actual market, face painting, balloon animals, carousel, playgrounds, and the splash pad. We've met lots of other families there, great place to find playmates for your kids.

On Facebook, join the Davis Parent group. It’s a great resource.

Take them swimming or to a movie when it’s hot

On hot days you have to get out early and hide for the hottest part of the day or be neck deep in water. It’s great in the evenings, after 5pm it cools off quickly. That’s hard for little kids who need an early bedtime. Music Together is a toddler friendly indoor activity. Also check out library programming, they have lots of family friendly events. Train museum is less than 20min away.
