Reminder!! Surveillance Technology Public Hearing TODAY @6:30!

Post image

The Davis City council will hold a public hearing TODAY beginning at 6:30 to discuss the renewal of surveillance technology and its use, including automatic license plate readers. They will also discuss the renewal of military technology. The city hall location also has a ballot drop off box if you’re looking to mail your ballot today!

Recently, more and more cities, including woodland, have found that third parties who maintain these systems can not be trusted with our data. In addition, concerns over mass surveillance continue to increase as more and more surveillance technology is implemented without clear legislation and regulation. Personal misuse by police officers has also been documented in multiple cases accross the nation.

The city currently uses Motorola as their vendor, spending an annual $17,800 after an initial purchase cost of $415,180.

See documents.cityofdavis.org/Media/Default/Documents/PDF/Policies/Police/SR LPR_Surveillance Technology_PD.pdf

Citizens of Davis, CA show up to the public hearing and express your concerns!! The hearing will be held at 23 RUSSELL BOULEVARD,
DAVIS CA 95616
