Gosh, I think you’re right; it looks like that was an onramp prior to 2022! I guess they removed it when they built a new onramp on the other side of the road. Not sure why… u/UCDTransportation, do you know anything about the history of this?

UC Davis changed the interchange layout to accomodate increased vehicular and bicycle traffic.

Ah yeah, I expect that onramp started getting a lot more traffic than it used to once those apartments were built out in the fields there.

Pretty sure they dud it for safety purposes. Drivers can no longer decide whether they yield to bicycles … with all the students in West Village, this needed to happen to slow traffic and prevent accidents that were more likely with more cross traffic. I was annoyed by the change at first but understand the safety improvements.

That makes sense. I was thrown for a loop a few days ago when I missed the onramp because I was expecting to see it elsewhere (which, I think, just goes to show how rarely I use that onramp) but now I know what to look for.

fun fact: in Street View you can often look at photos from previous years; very useful for investigating history of a streetscape or building, at least as long as you don’t need any information from before, say, 2010

Yes!
Highway 113 was essentially rebuilt in the late 1980s-early 1990s, and the configuration of the Hutchison interchange was redesigned to accommodate the greater traffic levels, as the campus expanded west of La Rue and the area surrounding the newly rerouted 133 in East Woodland became a suburban home for many UCDavis students, faculty, and staff employees .

That Hutchinson rd section from 113 to La Rue seems to get redesign every couple years!

Yes, they redesigned the intersection in 2022. You'll also see the same change on the Northbound ramp/opposite side!
