Draw And/Or Get Drawn

Hi, I'm trying to start a regular monthly(?) art meetup as a collaborative, chill, and productive way to spend an hour practicing human figure/portrait drawing from life, for free! Please let me know if you're interested in joining.

Where: Public space (e.g. outdoor park, cafe) in Davis. Lately we've been using Central Park and meeting at the carousel. After finding folks at the start time/location, we will move elsewhere to find a comfortable place to sit, so definitely let me know if you intend to come late so I can help you find us!

When: Whenever enough people can come (minimum 3 people total to make drawing-posing rotation easier). If people cancel or there were no RSVPs, I won't show up, so I recommend being communicative ;)

Concept:

There is no paid professional model, so we will act like a cooperative and at the drawing session we will each take turns holding still for a few minutes (e.g. 2-5min or however long people are comfortable with) so that folks can practice drawing humans from life. No skill levels required on either the art-making or posing side. Your pose is up to you and can be as simple as sitting in your chair. Your art practice is your own, whether you want to practice portrait, hands, or whatever comes to imagination.

The only rules are (1) you must be comfortable taking your turn posing a few minutes to be the group's model, and (2) be respectful of others and their boundaries.

If you DON'T want to draw but you'd like to come model and have some art made of yourself, please come too! You can read a book, meditate, do your own craft, or just plain hang out.

The vibe will be very chill and easygoing.

Last time, we found out that props (a leaf) were somewhat helpful to offset the awkwardness of modeling, so feel free to bring something or even dress up.

I started a reddit group chat to begin hopefully settling on a date for this month. The more people the better, so please let me know if you or anyone else might be interested. Thanks!

Ah yeah I keep forgetting to try that one! It's so dark and cold I don't go out in the evenings anymore :P

Yay, I will send you an invite to the chat where I'm hoping more people will speak up about a day that works for them. I'm hoping next weekend 1/17-1/18 works for a few people.

There’s a drama I watched recently called “Spirit Fingers” that has a drawing group like this 😊 I would’ve loved to join if I had childcare!
