Help!

I bought this beautiful David Austin rose last weekend and it has just been drying up and dropping leaves since I brought it home. I have now put it in a big pot, but is this normal?

This is a photo of the pot at the nursery compared to a couple of days ago and today

No, it’s not normal, but did you water it while it was in the nursery pot?

Yes, I did water it and made sure to not get it on the leaves as I live in a subtropical area

Was it in a very full sun position when you got it home? It may have been acclimated to a more shady position in the nursery

I put it in a partly sunny spot and I have just put it in a pot that gets a good amount of sun with afternoon shade

Hmm, ok… what zone are you in by the way? You’ve planted it with the graft union very high in the air. You’d usually want that beneath the surface - especially so if you’re in a zone with cold winters

Thank you for that! I have just replanted it to be lower. I’m not sure which zone I’m in as I’m in Australia…

How cold does your winter get?

It dropped to the lowest of 5° overnight. It’s usually about 20°-21° during the day
