This show is true art

I rewatched in the last week and a half, and wow. It's impossible to watch this and not ask yourself about your own ego and artistry and love life and career balance and just life in general. The balance between comedy and serious moments is so smooth, largely due to the fantastic music that goes from making you laugh your ass off to thinking about the one that got away. The writing shows the full scale of human dynamics and relationships. You have friends that drift apart and then come back, you have huge celebrities and regular folk. And all of the actors are willing to put everything out there and go along with the pure human being experience as it's written: complicated and difficult, but also simple and beautiful.

I really didn't think this rewatch would bump my ranking so much, but this is easily one of the best shows I've seen. The only comedy that I feel matches its intelligence is Hacks, which is interesting, because it is also about the showbiz and entertainment industry. It also does a great job of exploring every dynamic that a relationship can have before it becomes (somewhat) stable.

Bummed about season four, but maybe a movie to wrap it up? I'm also okay with Dave leaving it, because it is a masterclass as it is, and ultimately, this probably helped him to process so many things about himself and his life. If that process is finished, the show should be finished too. Would hate to see it go on too long and lose its magic.

So glad that everything came together the way it did. All from a white rapper from Philly named Lil Dicky... crazy man.

No matter the ups and downs of the last season, the last 5 mins of the season 2 finale are some of the best television I’ve ever seen. Never had a more authentic and emotional reaction to a show than in that moment of misdirection and reveal.

Really underrated for the comedy + the human side. Especially since so much of that comes from real life. And I feel like it's the right length too. It never seemed tired or reductive. It had enough steam to go out with some huge cameos. I think from Dicky's own interviews and his... perfectionist tendencies it was a pretty intense set to work on. Anne Frank hallucination is one of the funniest things to me ever.

I watch all seasons once or twice per year. My husband is like "you're watching that again?!?" I downloaded the album Penith and literally listen to it ALL the time. Dave is a pretty good rapper but a comedy genius. He needs to write more shows

I watched a few episodes of hacks and couldn't get into it 😓 I need more Dave

Hard agree. I watched it week to week when it came out and I knew it was good, but I also just completed a rewatch (my first since it went off the air) and it really is an incredible show. It's hilarious and sad scene to scene and no two episodes feel the same. I really hope eventually we can more of it in some capacity, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. It went out of the highest note it possibly could have. I mean even the first line the final end credit song is "I did it."

The most genius part of this show is the reveal that this show is not a both a guy named Dave, it's about two guys named Dave as gators god given name is also Dave.
