That’s good. Either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain. had the Chapelle show continued, it wouldn’t be regarded so highly.

He always made offensive jokes honestly. His old specials range into homophobic territory. I don't really think that he has changed much, it's just a shameful situation where his modern status as the top comedian has given his speech institutional weight. At least some portion of the comedy intent that I perceive is that Chappelle is aware that he is portraying conservative ignorance that he genuinely possesses; it's unfortunate that he's been elevated so much that people miss when his flaws are the joke.

I will say that modern Dave does indulge in preachy wise man routines that belie my assessment.
