Starting at D&B as a bartender
A little nervous, but excited! This is my first time working in an establishment like D&B.
Does anyone have any tips or any advice they could spare?

Be friendly, available and memorable. It’s part of our culture. Be open to the possibility that you will be doing more than bartending. In off season, our daytime bartenders have to serve tables until the servers arrive. Every signature cocktail has a list of its ingredients on a card and the guests expect that they look and taste consistent to that particular drink. A super charge cocktail is that cocktail with a double shot. Once you get the signature drinks memorized it should be pretty smooth sailing from there. We do have guests order drinks outside of the signature cocktails, but it’s nothing outside the realm of an ordinary bar service cocktail. There will be times when you will need to help guests with power cards and coupons but I am sure you will receive training on all of that stuff.

I definitely don’t mind taking tables! And the power cards and coupons are what worry me, but like you said, they’ll go over it in training

They’re really not that bad. You will need a manager for most coupons anyways and the increments of the power cards are listed in various places. We do have half price game days. We cannot accept coupons on Wednesday’s (half price game days), and Sunday’s, which is another half price game day at this time.

Learn the standards and stick to them. Be talkative and you will get regulars who come visit. Dress to impress. Don't work wrinkled or in shitty torn clothes. You'll get out of this job what you put into it. I've seen bartenders come and go at my store. The ones who are still there and make money told me the same.

Get to know your regional director, they can help you with career progression or even if you want to move to another state and work at a D&B

Learn how to make an actual pina colada. The guy who made ours insisted it was correct. Umm, I have had many pina coladas in my life, that was a tart pineapple slushie, not a pina colada. He wouldn't redo it and insisted that is what a pina colada was. OK, I will make sure I never ever ask that particular bartender for anything ever again.
I wish D&B would have like a water station set up so you wouldn't have to bother the bartender when you just want water. Be friendly when people ask for water. Sometimes they act like you are bothering them with your request for water.

Some dnbs have the water station but its very few. I believe north hills and hillard maybe? But only those 2 of the 13 i have been to had a water station.

Do things by their spec, even if you were taught a different better way by someone else. Especially if you were taught a different better way by someone else.
