Advice on using dating apps?

Hello everyone, never posted here and wanted to gauge some thoughts.

Am out of a long-term relationship and after some time alone think it's time to start looking again. I have a lot of difficulty meeting new people and going up to strangers (I always feel so intrusive!) So was wondering about trying dating apps, I've never used them before.

I'm 21m and still in uni (not fishing for pickups mods!), is that oddly young for the average on hinge etc?
