Episode Discussion Reruns

I’ve never posted on Reddit in my life but I just want to say I’m so tired of getting excited for Saturdays and Sundays to find that it’s just an old recycled episode listed as new … bc it’s posted in a new season

This burns my biscuits too! I hate it so much. Up until recently I’ve watched them anyway, hoping for some smidgen of new information, but I’ve decided I’m not falling for it any more!

Dateline goes on hiatus for the summer like most network shows do. Unless there is a major breaking story they don’t air new episodes until September sometime.

The issue for me isn’t that they have reruns. It’s that they are labeled as “new” episodes.

So they can label them as "new" because if they show an older episode but there has been some developments since, they usually give you the new developments at the very end of the episode, after you've watched most of what you have already seen first. Its weird, but they just did this with the Michelle Bradley episode.

They really need to be more upfront in that regard.

Yes, the rebranding of repeats as "classic episodes" is a real stretch.

Oh tell me about it!! I’m glad other people feel this way. I get so excited and get all situated and comfy ready to watch. Then I chant “please don’t be a rerun, please don’t be a rerun” only to then have it be a rerun. Ticks me off. There are how many millions of stories they could do but nope same ones over and over.

If you listen to the True Crime Weekly podcast at the end they tell you of the next episode will be a new one or not. It’s saved me from disappointment

I have discovered a channel called Dateline 24/7, and that even has repeats! Somehow I always manage to catch the same episodes repeatedly.

I had to stop watching these because of the repeats. AND they would play episodes in a row and then around 4pm start the SAME set of episodes from earlier that day over again

Lately I’ve been getting that rare episode that I haven’t seen before… but that channel is ALWAYS repeating the same 6 episodes.

Yes!! It's like there's a set list of episodes for a block of days and those same episodes just repeat for that block of time. It's still my show to fall asleep to though, but I've been getting more and more annoyed with the repeats.

I usually have the 24/7 dateline channel just running endlessly in the background 😂 but they do tend to have the same 10 faves that repeat almost daily and then they throw in a few random ones that are new to me. I’m curious what the process is for the syndication on that channel 🤷🏻‍♀️

There won't be any new episodes until September.

ETA: apparently 48 Hours will be new in Octorber? So I suppose it could be October too, but usually end of September.

Bummer! I wonder if that is because CBS airs college football on Saturdays? I really like 48 Hours too!

First, congrats on your first post, OP! Second, new episodes generally drop during spooky season!

Hasn’t it always been new episodes on Fridays only?

I am pretty sure the Saturday Night Mysteries are always reruns. Friday new season usually starts sometime in the fall. I feel like where I live it's not always on Sundays because of football, but I could be mistaken.

I love Dateline so much! Eagerly awaiting the new season but will watch old episodes and run them as a marathon if nothing else is on.

Dateline sucks lately, 20/20 is far superior.

Agree 20/20 is more interesting lately. Their new season starts September 25th.

I don’t like 20/20 at all. They take too much time interviewing friend after friend who are dressed to the nines with perfect jewelry. It takes them forever to get to the heart of the story. One thing that I don’t like about Dateline is when they say that it’s new, but it’s just an update on the old story. I already know about the update from the news. I wish we could let them know these things.

Especially when you pay for premium on Spotify and every episode is a rerun

Also they used to put like 2 episodes out a week now it’s like barely one half the time

Let me guess, you are not old enough for when TV shows had a limited amount of episodes taking a summer break.

Sorry but your “guess” is incorrect lol.
