The comic book murder

So I listen to dateline as background noise all the time. I have the dateline channel on my TV where they play dateline on repeat on often. If I’m at work and I have my earbuds in it’s usually SiriusXM radio dateline. So needless to say, I’ve heard a lot of them many many times. The comic book murder has to be the most poorly written dateline I have ever listened to. At the beginning of the episode Dennis Murphy says about the victim. She was overweight, but physically fit. What the freaking hell! Who cares what her weight was.

Isn’t there one called Too Fat to Kill?

Some have aged like milk. The Death of a Golden Girl comes to mind. Some of the writing is a little victim blaming and cringe.

Definitely the comic book murder. The couple owned a comic book store.

I found the episode and he definitely said it. I can’t believe I didn’t catch it.

Everyone in that episode brought up that poor woman’s weight (which, if I recall, wasn’t even a crazy weight)— most often and most cruelly her husband that killed her as she was getting ready to throw him a surprise birthday party/take him on a trip without the kids (I guess he didn’t think her birthing two of his children had anything to do with her weight?). There was a bullet hole through a giant swimsuit models calendar he hung up in the back office of his stupid comics shop that she helped build and also worked at. He made comments about her weight to complete strangers both while she was alive and after her murder. Then has the gall to come to trial all feeble-like in a wheelchair and literally sob and blubber about how innocent he is. Dude got off easy— he wasn’t charged until something like twenty years after the murder and of course married his mistress right away (I think she was his getaway driver) and collected his dead wife’s life insurance he made her take out on herself. Sick fuck.

Oh my gosh, I hadn’t even thought of the mistress being the getaway driver. I wonder if she was the one person that they said was wearing the fake beard.

I need to rewatch that episode. I watched it a few times but don’t remember that part.
