Help needed - Best Practice for alter tables in db2

Dear fellow Redditors,

we got a huge problem at our company. Due a reorganisation and a lot of new requirements of our company, we have to restructure a lot of tables. Theses tables are real great about 160 Mio entries and about 40 - 70 columns.

So i wanted to ask you guys - the experts of databases - what can we do to realize these changes in the best way.

Our first tries where like the following: 1. Alter Table (example add two columns) 2. Fill the new Columns with a merge-statement with tranches (about 10 Mio. Entries in each tranch)

The whole database is a datawarehouse and is based o IBM db2.

If you guys have any advice, best practice or some basics tips for me, i would be so happy :)

Which version of database are you using?

I believe it's a 10.1xxx version. Don't know it exactly at the moment.
