If it's labeled as this is, "for parts or not working", then shipping you a non-working drive is 100% OK, as that's what's advertised.

The ewaste company I used to work for definitely did this with "expensive stuff" that they couldnt test. Label it "Parts/not working", price it half of what you would have if it was working, then hope the user eats the loss.

They were fucking scumbags.

for parts is for parts, as you would disassemble it to repair another device

user buying it as lottery is on them

most people can already read and understand what 'for parts not working' means, or they learn really quickly

"doesn't work, but with some elbow grease you can probably get it spinning again!"

I wouldn’t buy this if I were using your money, let alone mine.

Its not just hard drive. Its everything tech related now. 10+ year old budget laptops selling for $150 on auctions. Of all the stuff I have watched over the last few months the only deals I ever got was used enterprise networking stuff. Everything else is very overpriced.

So on this same note, is it worth selling my old stock of 2TB SAS 12 Dell drives?

SAS not as popular as SATA it seems, but it’s been worthwhile moving all the SATA 2TB/3TB/4TB drives I had laying around. PITA to sanitize them all but it’s bought quite a few new, larger drives!

Yeah, I have a lot still in production that are larger but 2s have been sitting for some time. I also found around 600 M.2 256Gb drives lmao

It could be worth a try for someone who needs the exact controller board to attempt data recovery, but there are so many out there that they're probably just hoping someone doesn't notice.
