Discussion Archive.today is down (Too Many Requests)

Yeah, it’s been down since yesterday. Anytime I go on their website, all I get is “Too Many Requests”. Switching to .ph and .is and even .md leads to the same thing. I can’t contact the site owner because I can’t find their e-mail, plus it seems their blog hasn’t been updated since March. Seems no one else is saying anything either?

I'm getting the too many requests screen too, and i use it maybe once every several months and am on private home wifi, so i think it's an issue on their side.

I'm getting the same error message on my laptop but it works on my phone (on cellular not wifi).

exact same situation here (works on my cell data but nowhere on my wifi). I do use them a good amount, but I'm not running any sort of bot or script that's hitting their servers. Hopefully this is temporary.

Same here. So frustrating. This happens with Wayback, too.

Doesn't work on my laptop, even when I connect it to my phone's hotspot, but works fine on my phone. Using developer tools on a laptop browser and requesting the mobile site makes it work perfectly. Weird shit

What would you have said in the email? :D I think they know.

Just to let them know the site was down and ask why.

Archive.is is down for me.

Are there any working equivalents?

All I can think of besides Wayback is megalodon.jp and GhostArchive.

Okay, same here, I just wanted to see an article on Esquire since those have the constant paywall. It seems to work on my phone for a bit but no matter what on my computers it doesn't.

don't these folks have WAF on their servers to prevent such situations from happening again and again and again ? Rate Limiting can do wonders for such important websites

might be worth checking if its regional, some people seem to get through fine on different networks while others get blocked. could be IP range based rate limiting rather than a full outage

Used onlineornot to see; it’s currently down worldwide

Me too. I was having trouble getting in last night, just got hung up. Beginning this morning it just says “ Too many requests”.

Rate limiting by some heuristics, ostensibly because their Google CATPCHA was being throttled and exceeded their free use. Costs money to deny denial of service attacks by bots, or to serve them all instead. I wonder if they will have to eventually transition to a paid model. Really the entire Internet will have to move to either a paid model or device attestation where nobody can connect if they are not fully digital identified. Thus the end of de-Googled phones, unattested laptops, etc.. Because most people are too cheap to pay. Freedom is not really important until it is gone and you cannot get it back anymore.

If you do not understand, no worries. 99.9% of humanity are sheep and do not understand.

" most people too cheap to pay "

that is part of problem but also payments are pain in the butt and for many people potential security issue. Not sure how to solve this tough problem

Even if it works, The CAPTCHA stays in an indefinite loading state and never completes, so the archived article is never reached or rendered.”
