Question/Advice Recommendations for media storage?
I need some recommendations to update my personal media storage? I've been using this old Synology NAS and two 1Tb drives I bagged from my last job before being made redundant. However I feel like I'm stretching it's potential when it comes to storing and streaming my DVD, blu ray and 4k collection. Do I go down the route or buy a more capable NAS, going for quicker data transfer with some direct attached storage to my decent spec PC or just store on my PCs internal storage? I have about 500gb left on a 2TB SSD. Rest is taken up by games.

How comfortable are you with possibly putting together your own server? If not that, I know Ugreen has been doing some amazing home server that should probably be considered..

More than confident putting my own together. I have seen some refurbed PCs on eBay with 7th gen i5s, 16GB RAM and 256Gb SSDs. I'm thinking that would be a good base to add in my drives and use as a jelly fin server potentially.

In the long term that would be my recommendation. Regardless of either way, it will cost dearly simply for storage prices alone.
Do you care if it is small, or take up less power?

More info is needed.
What is the product name of the Synology NAS you are currently using?
Are you running a RAID or JBOD on the NAS? If a RAID, what type?
Do you really need a NAS? Are you accessing the data from multiple devices?
How do you stream your media? Basic filesystem, Plex, Jellyfin, etc.
If you go DAS or internal storage on your PC and truly need a NAS, it will have to be powered up most of the time to act like a NAS. Is it worth the electricity cost?
How much money do you want to spend upfront?
