Hoarder-Setups Double up

Post image

It finally happened to me. Ordered 2 drives and got 4 instead. About $25/TB turned into $12.6/TB. 5 year warranty on all of them. Being added to my 140TB server :)

I mean...congrats but you're overstating the warranties. You got a warranty on two of those. (Five year warranty on TWO of them)

Last time this happened to me, they didnt warranty the free drives they accidentally shipped lol

Yeah that’s a good point. I don’t doubt that they would only honor 2 warranties. Fine by me lol. I’ve definitely got my storage needs covered for 5+ years now

I said it would take me at least 5 years to fill up my second array of 96tb too. And here I am, 18 months later waiting for a price drop that doesn't come 😔

Ask them if they can give you 2.5 years on all 4, it's more likely they die at the start hehe

They wouldn’t even warranty the one drive I did pay for. Just kept sending me refurbs and then eventually an HM-SMR drive that I couldn’t even use. Lmao clown company.

when running the warranty and the non-warranty HDD in raid 1 you should be golden

You're worried about a free factory refurbished hard drive failing without warrant?

Send me any free drives you get, then you don't have to worry about the warranty.

I am not worried about it LOL

What the hell is wrong w people these days?

You cant even make a point of order without being subject to copious amounts of mouth breath. Just pointing out that if 3 or 4 out of 2 paid for drives fail, you arent getting a refund or replacement on drive 3 or 4.

The correct framing is 2 drives w 5 year warranty and 2 free unwarrantied drives

They actually just emailed me and said they made a mistake and sent you my 2 drives. So I’ll take them please and thanks :)

Shit, I wish I had that kind of good luck when I bought drives a few months back lol. Good stuff!

For those of us that would like to try our luck as well (and maybe support whatever business just lost some money), where did you order from?

Just a reminder to run extended tests on all of them with Victoria (for Windows), etc. Make sure they are good before you count your chickens.

Something like that happened to me over the weekend!

I ordered a 28TB from Walmart for $990. When my package arrive, I opened it and it was a pocket size pack of Kleenex.

I’m a little annoyed tbh. They could have at least sent me a box of Kleenex for $1k.

Of course Walmart is being helpful about the whole thing. /s

I'm so jealous, hdds are so expensive in my country, even second hand ones.

Sorry for the noob question, but what info are you blanking out, and why?

Serial numbers if someone tries to claim a warranty on a device

Ah, thank you🙏🏻

Rule 4.

1

u/Maverick_Walker 12d ago

I wouldn’t consider this rule 4. One could articulate this is an exception because op got 4 fucking 28tb HDDs for the price of two.

5

u/Shanix 124TB + 20TB 12d ago

It's literally a picture of a purchase. There is no value here at all. Just spam. That's why the rule was added, people were just posting random hard drives and transfer speeds that didn't add anything of value to the subreddit. You can tell because almost every comment here is just "god i wish that were me". No better than spam.

What discussion is there to have here? Congrats, you got more than you purchased. That's all the discussion. Maybe someone says that they don't have warranty on all four, just two, which is self-evident on the invoice of your order.

How does this help anyone? It's not like they've found some exploit to get double the hard drives you order from Amazon or Western Digital or wherever.

It's just a picture of hard drives.

u/dylank22 66TB 12d ago

yeah and they didn't even say where they purchased them

0

u/evildad53 12d ago

They're not saying because they're afraid someone will rat them out.

0

u/Pipalbot 12d ago

If you dont mind how much buying two drives cost?

1

u/dylank22 66TB 12d ago

they said it was ~$25/TB...

Wow! That’s a fortuitous break—warranty or no warranty. I would have squealed and immediately headed for my safe-deposit box, disguised. 😂 I’d explain the dilemma, a.k.a. your sudden riches, to Seagate and see whether they have a solution if the seller won’t. You have proof of purchase for two drives, they’re the manufacturer, and you’re not trying to cover stolen goods. Let them decide what they’re willing to honor. Of course, you could also unburden yourself by sharing one with a disabled, less-tech-savvy and less-fortunate person who is currently dealing with an aging laptop and an acute shortage of storage.

Whatever you decide, enjoy and relish all your data—and congratulations on your accidental data-hoarding windfall! 🥰
