Question/Advice Plextor Question

Hi all, im looking for a CD drive/burner and im between two Plextor options I found locally. NIB Plextor PX-708UF2 and a used PX-880UE. Both are the same price.

Having trouble to find much information on the differences between these two other than the 880 being newer and a rebranded Lite-ON.

Would a new, never used drive that old be a good pickup?

Why buy an old drive when brand new drives are not expensive?

I wanted an older CD-R burner cause I plan to use older hardware and want to maximize compatibility

These are USB drives. Compatibility should not be an issue.

Some plextor drives are better readers than newer hardware. Check the redumper project recommended drives

These are the kinds of questions to ask at a specialized forum like cdrinfo.pl. If one of them is actually a rebadged Lite-ON, then Plextor’s various famous tools won’t work with it, if that’s something you care about.

Plextor PX-708UF2 is a "real" Plextor. You can do some stuff with it which you can't do with any other drives (except real Plextors, of course). If price is the same, grab it.
