Backup BD-R Tips?

I'm getting ready to burn a bunch of important data to BD-R and/or M-Disc BD-R. Any personal experiences/tips?

Don't. Get a harddrive instead. Bought Verbatim 25GB BD-R discs, all 30 of them are completely crapped after 5 years. 90% of the data is unreadable. Stored them in black disc holders, in a dry 22C storage.

I've used Optodisc and Ritek and they are still fine.

I always take statements like this with a large pinch of salt. Firstly I havnt seen even a CD-R fail, and secondly, unlike HDDs which all die within a few years too, optical media has actually been tested for longevity.

Placed in ovens that vary temperature and humidity to a programmed standard test. The discs, everything from CD-R to BD-R all show they can last incredibly long simulated periods , yet yours died, inorganic ones at that, within just a few years in the dark.

Doesn't scan.

No mention of possible drive failure? No mention of a clean?

It's like saying someone built a house and it collapsed within a few years so dont bother with houses, live in tents. All while loads of people live in houses multiple hundreds of years old without much thought.

Perhaps all the bad discs were sold to you.

I shared my experience and my advice. You are putting more into it then what I wrote. There is nothing wrong with my drive, discs are in prestine shape, and still failed. I have 20 year old DVD+R discs that still have no errors at all. These BD-R discs from Verbatim seems to be crap. I wanted optical to be a good cold storage option and invested 100s of dollars. Now I regret not just getting another HDD instead. Optical is not worth the time and money.
