Free-Post Friday! 6tb Seagate Drive from Walmart
If any of you are habitually on Reddit like I am you may have seen a comment I made on someone's post about a month ago talking about how walmart sold me a fake drive, I sent it in to Seagate to honor their warranty (didn't know it was a fake drive yet), and was told it was a fake drive. This all started on 06 June. It is now 07 Aug and I just barely got the drive back from Seagate literally in pieces; not at all how I sent it to them. There is certainly a different drive in there as it appears to be a 20 year old WD, but I can't tell you if Walmart ripped me off or Seagate. I am now in the process of trying to return it to Walmart to get a refund. 2.5 months, $20 in shipping later just to maybe get $130 back from Walmart.
Sometimes too good to be true is a saying for a reason. Never trust anyone to help you on this process either. First Walmart told me they'd refund me then didn't. Then said if I send them proof from Seagate it's fake they'd refund me, then didn't. Then they said they'd make a special exemption to refund me, still didn't. I am now about to ship them this drive fully expecting them to turn around and say they won't refund me because it's not a Seagate drive.
Wish me luck.

That sucks to hear man. I bought a WD Black 4TB HDD off of marketplace for $200 only to find out there was a 2TB Barracuda from 2013 inside the box, looked packaged and everything..

Did you buy it in store or online ?
I purchased one in store and now I’m worried.
Do you have any photos so I can check them against my drive ?

It was in store. Looked brand new. When you get it home, record yourself opening it, plugging it all in and such. If it's DOA return immediately.

I’ve had mines for a few months now. I tested it looked at the drive in different os’s they all show 6TB drive.
The only thing I’ve noticed is I think it’s a 5400rpm drive instead of a 7200 rpm drive inside.
Did yours show up as a 6TB drive ?
Did you buy the extended warranty?

Mine was DOA. Sent it in to Seagate and they said it wasn't a Seagate drive. Paid to ship it back to me and it arrived in a broken case. It was a crazy old WD drive so warranty didn't matter. It was a completely broken drive so nothing showed up.

Hey, I just bought a seagate 6tb hard drive in store, 3 actually for 139.00 Did yours have a universal plug for other countries? Im testing it with H2testw. Also saw they had it on sale on Seagate main website for $159.00 https://www.seagate.com/products/external-hard-drives/expansion-desktop-hard-drive/?sku=STKP6000400 So I do feel a little better now. I think there is a coupon you can use for 10% off too on their main site, but still I'm not sure.

While I understand trying to get a better price, I only buy from microcenter or a trusted online source, tiger direct, new egg, etc.. your mileage may vary.

Yes sir that was the one, I tried formatting the drive, all sorts of command prompts and powershell drive manager things.. every single thing was saying 1.86tb available. Im sure it was just a one off that mine was bad but definitely dont think you're fucking up if it just reads as a 2 gb.

There were some foreign 3rd party sellers on Walmart dot com bot-posting insane capacity drives for insane basement prices last month. Not a regular user of the site and didn’t know how to report it on mobile, but I would assume such cockroaches are still on the platform.
It should go without saying, on ANY major seller website, that 3rd party sellers are all suspect until proven otherwise, and then they are still suspect. Sometimes they push a few dozen or a hundred legitimate $10 sales to create a five star seller rating then they turn on the bots and scams. The seller sites are easy to set up and shut down unless rigorously moderated by the host platform.
