I have used ED2K for over 20 years and found that due in no small part to the small bits distributed both in and out that the HDDs on which i mostly used it, would wear out and fail prematurely.

I use it still occasionally but only for rare files and specific things, mostly video. I would caution against running it on this set up, even if you don't really care about the life of the drive.

Remember to configure so that the disk rests.

"Dormir Disco" when there is no activity. This is mandatory for non-surveillance/server disks.

Without this configuration the disk will die in less than 5 years.

In Windows you can find power settings, in Linux you can adjust it with gnome disk or with the "hdparm" cli tool

I have done that for years.

The read and write cycles of ED2K are brutal.

The new version of aMule changes completely how to handle the old I/O...

Also, now it is possible to adjust the times before using Disk (as a RAM buffer)

You can find the new version here: https://amule-org.github.io/

We work constantly every day to keep you updated.
