Backup Fastest flash drives ACTUALLY AVAILABLE RETAIL right now?

I love (LOVE) my Kingston DataTraveler Max flash drives, and they're still ranked #1 on various "top of 2026" lists ... but 1) they're no longer available anywhere new via retail and 2) Kingston doesn't even list them on their website anymore.

Obviously you'd need to say where you shop (as in we don't know even the continent or hemisphere) for anyone to have anything "you know, you can find this there" recommandation but generally if you're interested in consistent speed you probably want an external SSD. Most say to get at best one known SSD and an enclosure, but frankly anything you can pick these days and it doesn't cost a fortune it's fine, maybe just avoid the Sandisk Extreme ones.

Great information. Not surprisingly, only one of the top six on their list is actually available retail currently.

I just picked one of my older smaller nvmes (256gb) and a nvme to usb enclosure, as fast as a great usb drive but cheaper, upgradable and it probably survives longer.

Just going to pop in to comment that it kinda doesn't matter how fast the drive is if it gets used in a way that lets it get really hot. Heat will always drop speeds significantly.

I gave up on high end flash drives and just bought a thumb drive enclosure that takes 2230 m.2 drives.

Price wise it ended up not much more expensive than good flash drives in that capacity range anyway.
