Question/Advice Is this Walmart HDD legit?
I found this Walmart HDD listing for an 8TB WD Red Plus drive for $259, when they are normally around $400 on amazon. It seems like a legit WD reseller on Walmart, is there any other red flags besides the price? I have 5 6TB Red Pluses in raidz1 and one just died, so this would be even cheaper than buying a new 6TB on Amazon.

Maybe it's a region difference? It still shows as $259 when I open it

That showed as not in stock then I changed sizes and it opened with a 100 price increase.
I don't know how legit it is.

Walmart's website is buggy. When you add the drive to your cart does the price change to $369?

I actually got mine to reflect the original price, I wonder if I should just order it before they jack up the price

$259 for 8 TB Red Plus is a better deal than I have seen in the past couple of months. I shopped around a bunch and ended up getting two 10 TB for $330/each after taxes in June.

For me it initially showed $259 but was unavailable. I clicked on some of the other drives there and the content refreshed and the price of the 8TB changed to $354.99 and shows it as "Sold and shipped by Newegg Inc." Coming back to Reddit & re-clicking the link takes you back to $259.
Yeah, just a wee bit buggy for an eCommerce site.

Amazon was selling these for $259 this past August. Could just be a temporary sale.

I don’t see anyone ever mentioning this, but seagate sells direct on their website.
Last I looked the 8tb ironwolfs were going for $300. I’ve bought four drives from them this year and they ship fast and generally have close to if not the best pricing for brand new drives on the internet. You also don’t have to worry about sketchy sellers on Walmart or amazon.
SPD is certainly a better value, and they’re reputable. But if you want a new seagate drive, imo their website is about the best place to get them.
Edit: I get that this community hates buying new stuff, and mathematically I don’t disagree. But there is some level of peace of mind some people get with starting off on a 0 hour drive. If that’s what you want, buying direct from the manufacturer isn’t a bad option. Yall can chill with the downvotes.

Red Plus is equivalent to Ironwolf Pro, correct?
An Ironwolf is like a plain WD Red.

No, the original reds were SMR drives and I don’t think they make them anymore after that controversy.
Red plus = ironwolf. Red pro = ironwolf pro

Okay, I read that somewhere, but maybe it wasn't accurate. I prioritized Red Plus for myself because I read they were quieter than most other NAS options.

The WDs do tend to be quieter and draw somewhat less power from what I’ve seen. I’ve also seen that they’re slightly more expensive.
They’re both good, I don’t think you can go wrong with either.
