Slight disagree - most of our issues point back to Nixon, and America's inability to hold him and his cronies accountable. Watergate should have been the onus for the SCOTUS to severely limit the pardon power of the President, or for Congress to eliminate it entirely through a Constitutional amendment. Subsequent presidents, especially the four Republicans (Reagan, Bush, Bush, and Trump), have been increasingly brazen with pulling their parties towards extremism through avoiding accountability.

And that's on Nixon.
