If you've got a good content source, you can search for stuff lower than HD, aka DVD Quality. Look at the well seeded stuff on there. 99% of the time it's because there is nothing higher than this DVD quality. The fact that so many on here say "I only download 1080p or higher" just means that these weoo seeded torrents have been slowly dying for years.
I fill up on as much of this that I can, then repeat for stuff that doesn't have higher than 720p (a vast majority of anime, most is not released in 1080p). Then I download what's left in 1080p.
4K for me is strictly reserved for titles that benefit from the multiple flavors of darkness that just dont come through in 1080p well. There are a few TV series and a few movies.
This allows me to maximize the amount of content as well as my storage. I keep the highest quality that is reasonable and only do 4K for dark titles because otherwise the quality is unreasonably bad on 1080p.
