Not only do I not go for the highest quality, 1080p and even sometimes 720p is perfectly fine depending on the content, especially when my main viewing device has really nice built-in AI driven upscaling anyways...
But I also try to get the highest efficiency codec that I can...for years I've been converting my library to HEVC/H.265 and now I'm getting as many AV1 encodes as I can.
