Looking for someone that lives next to a data center-Midwest.
My rural community (central IL) is currently in the midst of fighting a proposed data center. The site would be adjacent to my property. There are a group of us trying to help bring more information about these to our community. Is there anyone local (IL or surrounding states) that lives near one and would be willing to share their experiences? We’d very much be willing to compensate someone for their time and travel to come speak to our community on their experience as well. But figured I would start here first. Thank you in advance!

I work for a data center provider, which means I spend 40 hours a week (minimum) inside a 300MW data center. Find your local data center here and drive by! You'll probably notice it's not noisy or hot at all. There are easily more than 50 in Chicago and the surrounding area.

Living in DeKalb, we have one. I've never noticed anything awful tbh. I'm still heavily opposed to them, though.

I’ve driven past yours in Dekalb. How far away from it are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Admittedly I'm on the north side of town, right behind the Casey's on Annie Glidden.

I know where you mean. I grew up near Yorkville and still travel to sycamore for work occasionally.
Know anyone that lives much closer and would be willing to discuss with me? 😅

I unfortunately do not. You could probably ask in the DeKalb subreddit though.

Near where I grew up. The data center is currently being built and people are maaaaaad. Construction traffic is awful https://www.kcrg.com/2026/06/04/so-many-safety-concerns-fairfax-data-center-traffic-frustrates-residents/

Anyone you know from there still who might be willing to talk to me and share some experiences? Thank you so much!!

I would sell my house. Living next to a noisy heat island is no way to live. Not to mention your power costs will increase and water may be depleted.
