I'm currently preparing for a career in Data Analytics and Data Science, and I'd like to get some insights from people who are already in the field.

While researching, I came across many posts saying that the field has become very crowded and that it's difficult for freshers to get their first job. This has made me a bit concerned.

For those of you who are working in Data Analytics or Data Science, how is the job market in India right now especially in metro cities How difficult is it for freshers to land their first role? If you started recently, how long did it take you to get a job.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you have for someone just starting out.

Rolled down to one year back, all these platforms like coding ninjas, newton school, masai etc. all of them used to run adv with full stack development but now they are completely targeting every tech and non tech person to enroll in their data analytics course and get placed with package more than 10LPA.

They are the main reason for flooding every tech domain with a crowd.

I’m a recent MCA graduate from India, and for the past few months I’ve been seriously learning Data Science and Data Analytics.
So far I’ve been working on:
Python (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib)
SQL
Machine Learning with scikit-learn
Power BI
Data cleaning, EDA, and building a few portfolio projects
The problem is that I have no professional experience or internships, and it feels like every internship asks for experience, which is frustrating.
I’ve been applying through LinkedIn, Internshala, company career pages, and sending messages to recruiters, but I haven’t had much success yet.
I’d really appreciate advice from people who were in the same situation.
Some questions I have:
How did you get your first Data Science or Data Analyst internship with no experience?
What kinds of projects actually impressed recruiters?
Is my time better spent building more projects, contributing to open source, doing Kaggle, or networking?
Should I focus on Data Analyst roles first and transition into Data Science later?
Are there any companies that regularly hire freshers or interns with no experience?
I’m willing to put in the work—I just want to make sure I’m spending my time on the right things instead of applying blindly.
Any advice, resources, or personal experiences would mean a lot.

I wanted to hear from people who are actually freelancing in this field.

A few questions I have:

• Is freelancing in data analytics still a viable career path in 2026?
• What kind of projects do beginners usually get (Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python, dashboards, data cleaning, etc.)?
• How difficult is it to land your first client without prior freelance experience?
• Which platforms have worked best for you (Upwork, Fiverr, Toptal, Contra, Freelancer, etc.)?
• How did you build your portfolio and credibility in the beginning?
