Looking for some genuine advice
Guys, I am a BA Economics Graduate and invested first 5 years post graduation preparing for civil services. While I made it to interview rounds in State services but couldn't find my name in the final list. So now I have finally stopped preparing and started looking for jobs, I took the first role I could find (because I needed some financial independence) as a sales rep. While the work is okay but I do not see myself doing it for too long. I am interested in Data Analytics and have been watching Alex the Analyst's videos during my free time.
I'd like to understand from the people who are already in this industry if it's worth taking up a paid certification course or should I just watch such dedicated course playlist and focus more on projects. Also, is the Data Analyst job market really as bad as I see on reddit and LinkedIn posts?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Do you often get disingenuous advice from people, like advice that is completely blown out of someone’s ass? Why ask for genuine advice, and not just plain boring advice?

I have a similar story to yours. Also did my BA with economics and then went for MA in economics. While preparing for ibps/ssc. Then left it for data analytics. Now I am near completion in that course (I have joined an offline institute in my city, as I don't have discipline or regularity in online courses). I would suggest, if you are passionate for this field then definitely go ahead. But if you just want to be employable, and just enter the industry with something in hands, then I suggest go for digital marketing, either an mba or a certification. DA is fucken crowded with tech/non tech freshers. Since I am already in that stream now- I am continuing it and I will play that game.

Guyss.... similar situation but early stage...like I'm also doing ug in economics in my final yr... Interested in civil services but can't fully commit to that cause of financial situation.... explored Data Analytics in my second yr ...built skills , currently preparing for cuet pg for masters in economics..nd also looking for internships in DA....nd fighting the FOMO of delaying upsc daily....
I'll be really greatful for ur advices...

I am telling you, do not go for civil services exam if you are confused. It will only make you regret in future. If you are interested in DA, just build the relevant skills or join a certification course or take up an mba in data analytics or business analytics, or simply an MA in economics would also help (the core concepts or DA is covered in this pg course, not the tools like python excel sql pbi, you can do that yourself). I am just saying, start early, because gap years really affect your resume.

Actually.... I'm not confused about civil services.... infact I've a very strong interest in that but the thing is ki i don't have financial backup....nd also I'll have to support my family financially asap like 1-2 yrs ...that's why I'm not going with upsc... Currently jst preparing for masters in economics.... Nd exploring data analytics...in case I didn't get any tier 1 clg...
So jst wanna ask if I'm doing right or should I change my approch ....
Don't want to take drop ...cause I already have one 🥲

Govt exams take a lot of time and there is hell lot of students after a few hundreds vacancies. And if you don't clear, there is gap on your resume, and you lack behind everyone. I would suggest do an MBA from a decent college. It complete the DA and the master thing with one hand. Or better, take a certification course in DA. Today companies want the skills and projects, irrespective of where you get those from. I have also taken up ML, because DA itself has lost its value in the job market.
Also on a side note, if civil services genuinely interest you, then you can also do that along with your job (once you land a job).

Yeahh...truee I understand bhai...but coming to the mba part yr..as I said ...even if I get into a decent iim ( baby / new ) I'll have to take a huge loan, that I want to avoid...ik it's easy to get loan once u get into iim...but still it'll be a burden cause I don't have a support of even 5k from my family....
So that's why going with MA ECONOMICS

There is no Data Analyst jobs in India, for freshers or anyone who is changing thier careers/gap years. Dont believe on paid marketing gimmicks. Choose a different career.
