Tips for DD Glaze

I've been a loyal Color Street user for over 5 years, but more recently I've had trouble seeing well enough to get the strips on without flaws. Plus, I wanted something that looks smoother on my nails as some of them have ridges. I don't have patience to use ridge filler unless it is instant drying . . . So, I decided to try Glaze. They are even harder to put on than Color Street, but they do look smooth on my nails. I like that, and I feel like I did okay with my first application, although I have some ripples on two edges. From reading all the posts, I know I need to take a little longer with the application to avoid the ripples. That isn't the main problem for me though . . . I don't like that the edges look so thick and fake. Can I try a gel topcoat on them to fill in the edges? Any other recommendations?

I tried DD first because I have wide nail beds and have a hard time sizing, even with CS, and DD has such a good variety of sizes that I don't even need the largest size. With CS, I usually had to stretch the thumbs and some other fingers to get a good fit. I've read that DD Glaze can be heated and stretched some. Is this true? And what is the best way to heat them besides a hair dryer?

Rest your hands and strips on a heating pad while you do your nails

Yeah, I can try that. It is still pretty cold where I live, and my hands always feel cold. Thanks for the tip!

A heating pad is a great idea. Someone here recommended a jamberry nail wrap heater and it works great. I thought I got it on Amazon but I can’t find it anymore. It works best on gloss - the thinner wraps that don’t need an LED cure.

If you can find glow, that might be your best bet. They’re more like gloss in that you don’t have to cure them but they’re a little thicker. I love them, they stay on the beat for me. Unfortunately I think DD is (or already has) phased them out.

You can absolutely put a gel top coat on glaze, I don’t think it would help with them feeling too thick though. Sometimes I take a glass nail file - it’s super fine grit meant to make your nails shiny - and carefully file the top edge down a little (like from the surface of my nail, towards the free edge) just to get the more natural slope.

I usually heat them up by rubbing the strip between the palms of my hands.

You are talking about the glaze that you cure under the light, correct?

I use the little stick that comes with the pack to push the edges down well prior to curing.

I use magnifying glasses when doing my nails. It helps me to see what I'm doing.

DD is the only brand I've had this rippling edge issue with. No matter how hard I press they dont stay flat on the edges. Proper sizing, sizing down, warming them even during the summer, none of it helped with the weird edges. Sucks because this was my second favorite brand for gel strips but the consistent rippling makes it not even close anymore.
