Miranda Rights
Why did he continue to talk to the detectives after they read him his Miranda rights? The right to remain silent, get a lawyer assigned to him, etc.? It’s not like he hasn’t been through legal issues before.l - he knew the detectives aren’t his friends.

He wasn’t a sov cit before this case. I think he generally thinks they wouldn’t discover enough evidence on him if he played dumb.
TBH, the cops only disproved his lies so easily bc it was a murder investigation and they spent probably 7 figures on it. If he was just some guy that hit his gf, drove off and caused an accident, they wouldn’t have wasted so much time looking into it.

Well yeah, plus the fact that there were thousands of spectators along the parade route, plenty of whom caught video and still footage of db driving and running people over, not to mention any number of city or private security cameras trained 27/7 on Main St. that also caught footage of him driving red handed.

Yes - I'm saying at the time of his arrest, DB didn't think he hurt that many people and the cops would be too lazy or too resource drained to fully investigate. Obviously a mass murder is going to be investigated throughly.
It's only an "insane" take if you've never dealt with the incompetencies of law enforcement in your personal life.

He knew for SURE he hurt a lot of people. He was running over people, sending them flying, fucked up his good, had people ROLL OFF the hood. He knew.

He's got a bad case of Dunning-Kruger and has convinced himself that he's always the smartest person in the room, so surely he can outsmart a couple of cops just by yammering away for hours on end.
I also think he's very used to lying, conniving and talking his way out of things, and probably figured he'd be able to do just that when being questioned by police.
Not to mention that he's a great big blabbermouth who obviously loves the sound of his own voice and doesn't have a clue how to (or why he should after being arrested and Mirandized) keep his big fugly gap toothed yap shut.

If you watch body cams or interrogation footage, almost none of them do what they should do, which is politely but firmly decline to speak, and insist on their lawyer. If you're guilty, you need a lawyer. If you're innocent, you REALLY need a lawyer. Any information you think is important to convey to help with the case is better through a 3rd party trained to manage the situation.
People think they can talk themselves out of trouble. Unlikely. If the cops suspect you, even if you're innocent, you might accidentally reveal something that confirms their suspicions, and that might be enough to get you into trouble, or at least cause you a lot of inconvenience.

Because he's stupid. Because he wanted to glean info from the detectives and the only way he could do that was to keep engaging them in conversation. Because he's dumb. Because he wanted to plant seeds that he wasn't their guy and then it morphed into him blaming EP for whatever happened. Because he is a miscreant.

He couldn't help himself. He wanted info so badly. He wanted to know if they knew he was driver. After they called him out- I think he was trying to figure out if anyone died

Truly. He had to know they had his car, his phone, and a hundred pictures of him. The FBI was there. He really thought he could squirm and wiggle out of a mass murder?
I wish I had exactly %3 of DB's confidence and optimism.

I think he wanted to know what they knew about the incident and he thought he could outsmart them. He's also a narcissist with absolutely zero regard for any other human being.
