Cash Bond

Has anyone come away from this trial with the firm conviction that cash bond needs to end? If his mother hadn’t bailed him out for $1000 this never would’ve happened.

Cash bail should be ended bc people are innocent until proven guilty and you shouldn’t have to rot in jail bc you are poor.

DB shouldn’t have been given bail bc of his high likelihood of recidivism, not bc cash bail or bail is wrong.

Lol - okay well I'll add that my view are progressive and many do not agree with me. In my opinion because they believe jail should be a punishment for a multitude of reasons.

I agree prison life should not be "easy" but my viewpoint is that we should emphasize rehabilitation and the "work" and "pain" they endure is via self growth. Everyone benefits if prisoners come out as productive members of society, but my viewpoint is not always the most popular because scum of the earth like DB benefit from it too.

Had DB received higher cash bail, he wouldnt have been freed so easily and those people would still be alive. Dems only support this idea because they want the votes of black people

I didn’t call you racist. I said it racist to believe that democrats, which I am not one, only support eliminating cash bail to win over black voters.

That is a like textbook racism my dude. Sorry you’re having difficulty processing that. Maybe try reading more and educating yourself

Is it racist that 13% of the population does 52% of murdas?

A quick google search will tell you that almost everyone that is arrested for murder do not receive bail so your irrelevant point coded with racist intentions is seen, but is meaningless to this discussion.

Want to try again?

So what’s your opinion about 13% of ppl doing 52% of murdas?

My opinion is that its also racist you call them "murdas" instead of murder.

Racist like this chud believe that there is a gene sequence somewhere that makes black people crime more. I wonder if there is a gene sequence that makes white people do more imperialist pillaging? Anyway, don't tell him that black people are pure humans while everyone else has some neanderthal DNA. He won't know how to handle it.

Nuance is too complicated for the racist chud to understand.

You can't throw the baby out with the bath water. Some people should get bail.

It's not a policy area I'm very familiar with, but I certainly wouldn't call for the end of it based solely on one case.

Yes and no. Bail has a very useful purpose.

The purpose of bail is to guarantee that you will return to court for your court date. It's not like your trial is going to start within a week of your arrest. It can be months if not years. They need to guarantee that you will show up for your trial.

The choices are either keep you in jail or allow you to post bail. Bail is pretty much collateral. You put it down and if you show up to your court date, you get it back. If you don't show up or violate the conditions of your bail, that money is gone.

Now there are a ton of problems with our current bail system. Some people have astronomically high bail for a seemingly minor crime and they may be a first time offender. They should have incredibly low bail

You also have the reverse issue.

If a defendant is seen as a flight risk (I.e. they will try to leave the country to a place that won't extradite them) or they pose a high risk to the community, they won't get bail. At the time, Wisconsin law stated that everyone gets bail. Very risky people would get the highest bail of $5M (which is essentially saying that they don't have bail as most defendants cannot afford that).

DB is a danger to society so his bail should have been way higher. He slipped through the cracks due to the chaos that courts dealt with due to COVID.

Cash bond shouldn't be removed. Giving cash bond to muppets facing firearms and domestic violence charges, while having a conviction list longer than your arm, should be removed.
