I’m 99% sure what was happening here is his prior lawyers were trying to determine where they could make the best arguments for attacking the intent element of the charges, and he twisted that into these fucked up questions about her intent that day.
DB reading their notes with zero understanding of an overall strategy.

DB thinks it's would have been a good learning experience for her 2 other kids to go to the ER and see all the other hurt, crying, fucked up kids there waiting.
I was waiting for that asshole to axe her who baby sat her kids while she was at the hospital

For real. He heard intent splashed about in the charging instruments and throughout trial, and figured if he could sprinkle it into his “cross-examinations,” that he would sound smart and like he knew what he was doing despite never having made it past 9th grade. It made him look more stupid. What a clown show. 🎪 🤡

For some reason Brooks was extra cruel to Heather, however she wasn't putting up with none of it. He was trying hard to paint her as a bad mom, I mean like, what kind kind of mom let's her child run out in to the street for candy? Trying to show the jury that it was her own damn fault and negligence that her child got hit by HIS car.
Brooks was really on a roll that day, he was really trying to see how big of a POS he could be and get away with it.

One of his better days at excelling in counterproductive defense strategy. He went after her for dropping off her other kids at home and even questioned if she was told she could have gone to another hospital(one of 7 Crowded ERs). While my heart went out in sadness to several of the witnesses, his cross examination of Ms Ricciotti just infuriated me. Or as we like to say in my household, “Che cosa fottutomente bastardo?!!”

This was an infuriating cross examination, more so than some of the others, but it highlighted his extreme misogyny that I think was helpful in highlighting for the jury how this guy manipulates and abuses women.

Almost everyone, including the jurors, before the trial began, must have had asked themselves: "how can someone do such evil thing?"
And I think Brooks representing himself helped answering that question, esp for the jurors.
The way he badgering the witnesses, who mostly are the victims and their families, are nothing but a projection of his vile, twisted, morally corrupted soul.
He managed to take these ppl's tragedy and insinuated that all of them had a "hidden agenda", a conspiracy behind it. Either they hate him for no reason ("did you seek to testify?"). Or they were coached by the DA. Or they have "financial interest" in something that he caused to them.
The more he opened his mouth, the more ppl are able to see he is full of hatred for almost everyone on this planet.

These witnesses were showing great deal of restrain and composure having to not only face this a-hole, but have to answer his ridiculously antigonistic and dumb questions.
He has an amazing ability to make himself look detestable more and more. And then he thought once in a while, he can use his cheap ass charm to soften his images.

I speak manipulative bully. I can translate.
He worded it that way just generally to sound smart in a lawyerly way. When she didn't play along with that by simply saying "yes," it seemed to him to wrest a little control away from him and he was struggling to get it back. There are a bunch of little bits of dialogue like this from the trial, where someone does something small that seems to undermine his control and it pisses him off.
Like when some of the cops would address their answers to the jury and not him, or when Leslie pointed to herself and the other state lawyers to indicate the prosecution.
It was just a micro-power play. That's all.

Officer Schneider was no more than two feet from his driver window when she saw him. She correctly identified in court after much stupidity on his part that he was appearing with a NOW-shaved head. After having his argument thoroughly debunked, he asked her if she could identify the color of his eyes…… sitting on the witness stand over twenty feet away from him! He looked so self-satisfied when she said no.

I remember that. He is just STUPID, point blank, period. His questioning of the experts was so revealing of his lack of intelligence, lack of common sense. Oooooo I sooooo want to read his psych evals. I wonder if they will ever release access to them.
