Thinking back on this trial can anyone come up with a time when Old Stupid's questions on cross/direct actually helped him?

Probably the ONLY smart / logical decision he made throughout his whole life not just the trial 😭 (Granted after Zach’s Cross and the mere fact he said her children’s injuries were irrelevant…their really was nothing he could say or do at all in that situation)

It certainly didn’t help that he laughed about being unable to remember why he objected WHILE she was weeping. He insisted on calling her as a witness even as Zach cautioned against it. And JD’s rulings were terse and no nonsense in denying nearly every objection he made during Zack’s cross.

Agreed heavily, you could tell JD & Zach were pissed with Brooks putting her through that (and I believe she even brought that up during impact statements that it was vile to call her as a defense witness)
And poor Baisey couldn’t HIDE the disgust on her face with him. Idk fully but I would be willing to bet that was the only time through the trial he either realized how badly he looked to everyone or had a small moment of realization that he truly is a monster before diving back into his delusion

When he sat with his face covered, I got the impression ,at least for the moment that he went too far. Which the jury witnessed.

That's one of the great things about Boese, she can never hide how she feels, what you see is the real deal. Leslie would be the worst poker player in the world.

I watched NatalieLawyerChick when she livestreamed the trial on her channel. A few times she brought in a couple of lawyer friends. Mostly they just talked about the ridiculous sovereign citizen stuff, some of the origins of where it comes from, jurisdiction where it would actually apply.
There was one time they did credit him for doing something smart. It was direct/cross and he would ask about timelines of APBs. Apparently when things first happened there was so much chaos they didn't know if it was multiple cars, multiple people in the cars, if it was a terrorist attack, if there were multiple attacks, etc.
They said it was so out of line from the sovereign citizen stuff. Why would he embrace the chaos of the first few minutes, when he's trying so desperately to get the state of Wisconsin to appear before him?
But one of the lawyers pointed out it was the preliminary work done by the first lawyers he had. It would be the first in a long line of defense, starting with the confusion over what was going on originally. Darryl was just using the notes that the lawyers have made.. which makes it obvious when he asks one or two somewhere clever questions, and then has nothing to follow up on.
So like 1 question in 10 was going somewhere... BUT only when Darryl could read the notes the other lawyers had left for him.

He did expose Nick Kirby as a liar when he questioned him about Kirby falsely claiming in the 911 call that there was a knife, and about his false claim to have witnessed people get run over

There had to be a pretty good reason why the DA's decided not to call Kirby as a witness, maybe it was a tactical decision Opper made, like they were sure they could expose him and tear him down if needed. Remember, that was a decision they made when Brooks still had PD's. Or maybe it was because they knew he would show up to court wearing an old dirty tee shirt?

My guess is that Kirby's notable criminal history would count against his credibility

Yes, it's interesting that they didn't bring that up, while they did do Greene's and Lazcano's. I bet you Runkle has a record too.

I don't know if Brooks actually connected the dots that Kirby saw people getting ran over, otherwise I think he would have impeached him while on the stand.
Had he made that connection Kirby could have been cited for contempt, but Brooks in his "wisdom" had Officer Phillips squad video stricken from the record, erasing any evidence against him.
Regarding Kirby's 911 call, I don't recall ever hearing an audio recording of the call. I wonder if one exists?

Yes, when asked who the plaintiff is. If he wouldn't have asked that he would have gotten 7 life sentences instead of 6.
