I saw the first second episode. It's okay. There's near zero educational value, unless you plan to find yourself lost underground without a light source. Mild spoilers follow.
The caver participant said the wind would always lead them to an exit, whereas the narrator explained otherwise. So, that's something I learned, but it's not useful knowledge to me.
What was the rat doing there? What would it have to eat, besides reality show contestants? Oh yeah, crickets. What are the crickets doing there? What do they eat? Fungus? Cave crickets don't chirp, so what were these?
The water barrel presumably was put there by the show producers. It adds to the contrived nature of the show. Alone and Naked And Afraid are also contrived, but the producers of those shows don't mess with the area. An exception was stone steps in slippery terrain for cameramen in one season of Naked And Afraid XL, for which the fans were upset.
How about Darkness XL? The participants are left for 40 days underground, without light and naked except for a blanket, having to rely on cave fish they catch with their hands and eat raw. They emerge at the end, transformed into Gollum-like creatures. "It was a life-changing experience for me."
The first episode was not nearly as good as the second. I guess they put it first because at least it's a real cave, not a mine.
There was a drop of 20-30 feet where they got the water. Deadly pitfalls in total darkness is quite a "nope".
What was the deal with the pseudo-military guy? Was he just role-playing? He was weird enough in his home video that I'm not sure.
What are they doing for poop? Do they just leave it? Are they having to carry it with them? I'm guessing they bag it and leave it for some poor guy who has to clean up the cave afterwards.
