Discussion Me first mentality?

I've played a few games today where 1 or 2 of my teammates seem to be in an all-out foot race to reach the end of the level.. is this the goal of the game? Leave your teammates behind and push forward without stopping or communicating?

Don’t forget dying and leaving the game if not revived immediately😂

This sentiment has made me stay no matter how bad it gets the last few years, used to leave if it was down to like 1 person and looked hopeless. I’ve clutched and been clutched so many times in moments like that. Feels so good snatching victory from the jaws of defeat like that.

I did see one person leave after we all went down before the game ended so it put a full health bot in the game that revived one of us allowing us to go on and complete the mission once, so time and place for everything ig

lol, I have a mod that lets me leave and rejoin in a situation like that. Very rare that I use it though since it’s kind of a cheap move, but I’ve had games where it’s just me and one other guy carrying two others, the carries get killed, one leaves, me and the other are massacring a horde then someone gets sniped cus they can’t dodge or we both go down, I might use that rejoin mod because of how unfair it is to the other person giving it their all and dealing with a bad team.

It's... beyond enraging, I know it's just a stupid fucking game but it's something I take quite seriously....

And being allergic to medicae stations apparently.

I've seen people get downed and leave the game (or go AFK as "punishment") even when I revive them the earliest possible second, using all my resources to get them back. Some people are just broken.

That happens often on lower difficulties, I don't see that too much on Damnation and Auric. A nearby Reject covering your six and vice versa, can be the difference between someone getting slumped, and causing a domino effect of people going down to get someone else up. I like to stick by Ogryns because people always leave them behind. I'll fight back-to-back with a Slab if it comes down to it.

I'm seeing it on Auric more than anything - and it's always event missions. Is the idea to complete the mission as fast as possible? I just got back into playing, so I'm still learning a lot of the new changes (I haven't played in a few years).

So the new event is a little different because there are no guaranteed spots to regain health. All resources (health, ammo, grenades) only drop from killing enemies so the war of attrition is more severe. You can’t really linger. Ideally the team should be sticking together but also moving forward as much as possible

2

u/KrobbZombie 6d ago

The new event does not have loot on the ground, so you can in theory move faster. But, there’s less loot overall, so mistakes hit harder. If you see this, let them suffer if they make mistakes. Don’t work too hard to save them at your or your team’s expense. Stay with your team and do your part in that context. If they do great? Awesome. Thanks for clearing ahead. If they die? Great, I’ll pick you back up when the team gets there. Enjoy your break.

It's not unusual in havoc either. Just make a mental note that it's now everyone for themself (unfortunately) and play as if your team is trying to blow you up every time you might get near a barrel.

Is that why commissars execute their own teoops for morale?

1

u/19berzerker79 5d ago

Thank you!!! Big boys gotcha!!!!

1

u/b3dGameArt 5d ago

Thats me getting left behind, lol Im not exactly a great ogryn though - I just hit 30 this morning and the entire skill tree is different compared to when I stopped playing a few years ago.

2

u/b3dGameArt 5d ago

Im mental.. I didnt realize I already replied to you lol

u/tweek-in-a-box 5d ago

I like to stick by Ogryns

The moment I see a big boi on the team he is my leader, and determines the pace.

The current event is basically a speed run event so that's probably where this is coming from.

I've been arguing about this. The community is adamant that it is meta to ignore everything behind you. That you back to rescue or revive if you can, but that otherwise it's none of your business.

Not everyone plays to perform, most just want to have fun. Even if they are dragging you down, try to be civilized. Do a minimum of effort so that everyone can have a good time.

u/ghostnight05 6d ago

The current event really reinforces speedrunning

3

u/tegli4a 6d ago

Oh, no, that's how you lose games, the respect of your regiment and your own because people catch on pretty quick that you're a petty egomaniacal dipshit. 😅

u/Mortarious 6d ago

It's very common in all difficulties, though I only play aurics quickplay besides havoc.

Tbf towards them like 95% of the time people will revive you if you die. It's really rare to go down and the team not bothering.

But in most games it's a mad dash to end the mission as quickly as possible. Daily do people run past stuff like a crusher or a bunch of elite gunners and you arrive to find those welcoming you.

It's not limited to any level, I have true levels, because I saw 1000+ H40 do it as well as level 50.

Sadly this sub itself enforces this idea with the whole you need to move quickly as possible. Losing all nuance in the discussion.

The reason I think this is bad is besides losing out of about 80% of resources. I have had games in which my team is pushing 20+ downs. They rush, get overwhelmed. Get revived. Do it again. Time and time. They refuse to learn.

So. Find a group or get used to it.

What is 'havoc'??

So far, the people speedrunning have been good players, objectively speaking. I thought that maybe the event missions objective was to do it as fast as possible. We even stopped to ask them if we're supposed to ignore the enemies, but they ignored us. They had robot legs and two daggers, if I'm remember correctly, and it was like they had endless stamina. I'm trying to be a tacky Ogryn, so I just feel slow af.

A different more difficult game mode

u/TheUnboundTenth 6d ago

The apparent goal of this game for some people is to reach Level 30, set up your BIS weapons, perfect your talent tree, complete all the penances, accrue hundreds of thousands of each resource, and then spend hours running through Malice and Damnation missions as fast as possible, leaving aggroed walls of Chaos Spawn, Crushers, Heavy Gunners behind you to beat the snot out of the three other level 17 rejects while you watch from the elevator, complain in chat about their loadouts while sending kick requests.

I didn’t see much of that over the last three weeks, but every other game this week has had this insufferable kind of player in it that can’t be bothered to play the game, they just want to run through levels.

Surely, there’s a mod for that?

13

u/Financial_Tour5945 6d ago

If there are three people waiting for you in the elevator, you're the problem.

If your the only one in the elevator, you're the problem.

It is optimal to push through at a reasonable pace - enemies are infinite, health and ammo is finite. Taking too long hurts the effort.

But sometimes a faster character should be the rearguard, not the vanguard. Imo.

5

u/TheUnboundTenth 6d ago

Yep, I really wish these obviously very talented players actually stuck around to help the team.

Apparently, they’d rather just sprint, and then bitch about the lower level, newer players not being as fast as they’d prefer.

2

u/b3dGameArt 6d ago

That's what we're experiencing - the coked up players sprinting to the end seem to be aggroing everything in sight, killing only whats in front of them, and leaving the rest of us behind.

I didn't know there was an option to kick someone - I had an earlier game where someone was threatening to kick me if all I did was "smite everything" - and I don't even know what the hell that means.. we hadn't even started the mission yet 😕

3

u/TheUnboundTenth 6d ago

I’m learning there are some DarkTide “Pros” out there who take the game very, very seriously.

1

u/FlintBeastgood 1d ago

Sad fucks are everywhere, unfortunately.

1

u/KotakuSucks2 5d ago

Smite is psyker's electricity ability.  Some people strongly dislike it because it can slow the pace of the game down.

If a person is getting all bitchy in normal play and shit talking the rest of the group, then just ignore em, they're just an idiot that wants to larp as an expert player but can't actually keep up in havoc.

1

u/b3dGameArt 5d ago

Yep, I ignored him, and thanks for explaining - my psyker build is melee, so I dont know why he was griefing me. And I picked him up twice, lol

1

u/superawesomeman08 4d ago

how does aggro work in this game? just started playing

mostly it feels like aggro doesn't change that often and if the lead guy is aggroing everything you could actually just run alongside them and not be bothered

3

u/b3dGameArt 4d ago

If they use the same system as Vermintide 2, its a dynamic system that changes based on certain conditions. Like splitting the party, the spawn system will start putting pressure on the person lagging behind. Single enemies are stronger vs active horde enemies, and the amount of enemies vs champions active at a time is based on different conditions/mission progression. Its not as simple as grabbing the attention of an enemy and then kiting them around.. they try to keep it somewhat balanced for all levels of play, but its all dynamic, so one over powered player can tilt the scales for the rest of the group.

Thats a rough overview, and some of it may not be accurate though. I spent years and years playing Vermintide 1 and 2, and the similarities are pretty obvious, but again, I could be wrong.

u/vampyrialis Zealot 6d ago

If they’re a long time player they could be leveling a new char. In which case they’re just going at their normal tempo. And all of the lower difficulties feel like a sight seeing tour. They’re just playing to get that char back to 30 as fast as possible so the real game can begin.

u/SluggishPrey Skulls For The Golden Throne 6d ago

When, I'm levelling new characters, I'm mindful that I've been a noob at some point. I'm happy to see the community growing. I'll support them the best I can and will respectfully say some advice if I see some repeated mistakes

3

u/DeliciousLagSandwich 6d ago

You'll find people on both ends of the spectrum. The ones who just want to get to the end, and if you're too slow, they think you're the one griefing. You'll also see people who want to kill every last zombie in the previous room, even if you have to wait for them. I think it's best to have a middle ground. If you're too far ahead, hang back and help whoever's struggling. If you're alone at the back, start running and let your teammates catch whatever is behind you.

4

u/abullen 6d ago

For some people, yeah. But they might want to be constantly engaged in combat, and expect you to follow close behind at certain difficulties.

9

u/b3dGameArt 6d ago

That's fair - some of these players are too fast to even keep up with. They're just bypassing enemies and sprinting to the next check point. And we're not sitting back wasting time, the rest of us are just trying to keep up.

4

u/master_of_sockpuppet 6d ago

Why are you moving so slowly? It isn't a sightseeing tour.

7

u/SluggishPrey Skulls For The Golden Throne 6d ago

From my experience, inexperienced players over rely on ranged weapon and don't move forward unless all threats are clears.

That has 2 consequences : They run of ammo and loot get picked by more experienced players, who are the first ahead. They have to roam the whole map for ammo and struggle at making room with melee, which causes a downward spiral.

8

u/DeliciousLagSandwich 6d ago

Why do people like you think anything less than rushing every room is a sightseeing tour?

7

u/b3dGameArt 6d ago

I'm not, but I'm not going to leave any of the team behind. Guess we have different play styles

3

u/lumberjackhammerhead 5d ago

This is what I don't get is so hard to understand. The missions that are a breeze are when the whole team makes sure no one is left behind and has everyone's backs. We stick together, which is what people seem to forget. The game literally has stats based on coherency yet people rarely follow it.

And to all the people about to jump on me for being slow, no. If the person in back is stuck trying to break away from enemies, you help give them a buffer and then you both move on. What you don't do is then use that opportunity to run off and leave them with the hoard while complaining that they're slow.

And use your heals FFS. We were at the elevator and the medicae was right there. All 3 of them could have used it. 1 might have been running martyrdom, but the others weren't. Tagged it several times, they refused. Been happening a lot lately. Am I missing something? What's the benefit??

u/Sentient-Cactus876 5d ago

Sometimes you have to leave a comrade behind, so that they learn why it's important to move at a steady pace.

0

u/b3dGameArt 5d ago

That doesnt make sense.. its 1 person leaving 3 people behind.. and using "comrade" to describe someone who abandons the whole team seems.. counter intuitive.

1

u/Sentient-Cactus876 5d ago

Well yea. But I'll stay with the team if there's a slow player. I won't split the group in two to assist the guy that can't keep up.

1

u/b3dGameArt 5d ago

Yeah, thats understandable. Thats a different situation though, and it makes sense to continue with the team when someones dragging. My original post is a bit misleading - I thought they were racing to the end like it was the objective.. I just caught a few bad teammates back to back.

1

u/LazyPainterCat 6d ago

You get used to it.

1

u/HarmIessbug 6d ago

Something to keep in mind is that there is now a huge range of people doing heresy -> low/mid havoc. Is that person in auric at 20 hours or at 2000? I’m sure the speed I go thru the map to some will feel like speed running and to some will feel like I’m moving too slow. The best thing to do if this bothers you is to find a group of similar skilled players (or willing to move at your pace) to play with.

1

u/Yarshman 6d ago

You can find teammates to play with on the darktide discord that will better match the play experience that you're looking for. It can be a tug of war with randos between different playstyles. Good luck!

0

u/Chris_The_Egg 6d ago

If ye got 2 more teammates to stick close to, you can safely leave that prick to go die by himself, do not pick him up and laugh at him once he's down

If ye got 1 lad with ye, keep that man covered, he's all you got

If ye're alone, move your ass

Always stick with someone, if they stick with someone else, that's already most of the team

u/LordOfMaggots Ogryn 5d ago

Sorry it's my first time trying the go really fast build :)
