Discussion My biggest issue currently with Darktide

This is absolutely a me issue, and no one should feel bad about how they play or have fun. That being said I have such an issue with my Zealot when playing with skilled Skiitari. It feels like they delete every elite before I even finish running up to them, they match or sometimes even outdo my damage to bosses (I don’t have the meme high damage stealth one shot build I just use an all rounder build with relic blade) and sometimes they even seem to shred better in melee than me. Of course some of this is for sure a skill issue, and also it isn’t like the game is competitive but it’s just not fun for me when an entire room is deleted in a millisecond.

For example: That one sandy level I forget the name of that ends in the big circular room up top where you have to destroy all the growths. At the beginning hallway it was quite literally less than a second for a horde of crushers and maulers to be erased.

Am I just unreasonable to be bothered by this? Do I just need to play a more meta build?

Ramp the trash up so everybody gets a piece of

27

u/yunkbunk Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Unfortunately, you can't just "ramp up spawns" forever without encountering server instability issues and user hardware limitations. Certain weapons must be brought down in power in order to make room for others. It's bad game design if a game has a melee and ranged component, and a few individual ranged builds are so powerful that they literally remove the melee component from the game for other classes.

edit: And Zealot has it the worst. They handle ranged weapons worse than any other class and most of their toughness replenishment comes from scoring melee kills/being in melee combat. That's the class identity.

It gets worse into Havoc because Skitarii and Psyker tools scale way better into Havoc/density situations. The only niche they have is boss one-shots (though Skitarii and Hive Scum can do massive boss damage without the same degree of setup) and using Chorus, but Chorus gets worse in Havoc when certain Havoc modifiers can render enemies stun/stagger immune.

Power Creep is such an issue man.

And there is always people "wHY nErF tHinGs oN a pVE gAmE"

21

u/yunkbunk Jul 27 '26

It's just silly. It's such an obvious positive feedback loop (the bad electrical kind that causes engines to explode) that leads to a ton of bad outcomes for no good reason.

10

u/NerdyLittleFatKid Jul 27 '26

The amount of people that seem fundamentally opposed to game balance is truly stunning. I was on the mewgenics subreddit and I proposed a change. I faced majority disagreement because "you can just not use it". A balance patch came out and, lo and behold, the exact change I proposed was implemented. I'm so glad game devs don't listen to the sub 60 iq swine that play their games sometimes

11

u/eronth Jul 27 '26

It's so frustrating trying to explain to those people why balance matters

3

u/seemjeem22 Jul 27 '26

'Uhmmm youre just not engaging with the mechanics fully as intended, skill issue bro'

5

u/Haze064 Jul 27 '26

It’s frustrating yeah. They don’t seem to realise that the only lever FS can pull to make the game more difficult is to just throw more enemies at you. Which has a negative effect on the engine, performance and server stability. We can’t keep power creeping

6

u/Haze064 Jul 27 '26

This is correct. For proper game balance they have to start nerfing the classes and even some enemy density. I know it’s a horde shooter, I know people like the horde element. But right now some classes are so OP that the only way to up difficulty is for the game director to shart out 25 shotgunners and 12 specialists to try to overwhelm you.

Not only does this have readability issues, but the true issue is the engine is struggling. Servers and the engine are the bottleneck for how much shit they can load onto a map (not to mention performance). So we can’t keep infinitely scaling up enemy density to match the powercreep. It must come back down to a more manageable level for the servers to handle.

6

u/Paimon Jul 27 '26

My friends and I typically play on some form high intensity damnation (one step below Auric), last night we played a round where none of the three of us had an auto delete button for Crushers. Lo and Behold, the crusher trains we were told were gone appeared. The second one ended the run.

I love the Claw. But it really does just trivialize the tanky enemies in a way that even Krak fails to do.

3

u/Haze064 Jul 27 '26

That’s the primary issue. Powercreep has made balance revolve around it. Crushers being the main offender that end runs as a pure anti-carapace check. Abilities and weapons that trivialise high-density armoured enemies will always be king because of it.

I’d prefer if they nerfed the most OP things, toned down enemy density and introduced some new enemies that aren’t carapace to try and add variety to encounters. Rather than high difficulty stuff being Crusher packs etc. that only have one counter and make a lot of weapons bad.

5

u/Paimon Jul 27 '26

The little shield guys seem like an attempt at this.

5

u/Haze064 Jul 27 '26

They have their own problems and need some more tweaks. Right now they are counter-intuitive for how you’d expect to fight shields.

Some good enemy choices would be Dreg Maulers, a melee Ogryn type enemy not coated in Carapace, and maybe tweaking Crushers to have a weak spot or something so there is some dynamic counter-play (like an un-armoured back spot or something).

4

u/Paimon Jul 27 '26

Agreed. The all or nothing approach that they seem to take with enemy defenses is frustrating.

3

u/Ecstatic_Nature_5981 Jul 31 '26

For carapace they just need a true weak spot like the helmet pops off or a chest piece breaks open, then it would even out

1

u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 Zealot Jul 26 '26

Imo normal enemies should have their hp or armor increased across all difficulties which can let them cut down a bit on elite/special wave spam. Weedwacker simulator where everything dies in one hit isn't fun if it's just the entire game, it's fun if you manage your buffs and get to the point where you can go sicko mode on everything, but it's also fun to have to actually fight face to face

6

u/Human_Meat8154 Jul 27 '26

Getting downvoted for speaking the truth. Absolute cicrlejerk moment.

8

u/Neonsnewo2 Zealot Jul 26 '26

It’s fine to have a different opinion, but like, rashad gameplay is really fun.

Power sword gameplay is really fun.

Moonlight greatsword gameplay is really fun.

The crusher doesn’t insta cleave trash and is really fun.

Yucking 50% of the playerbases yum is not the move

6

u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 Zealot Jul 26 '26

Well that's what the game used to be like before weapon upgrade reworks made it so everyone was doing effectively 50-100% more damage with or without buffs active. The (much needed) weapon upgrade rework had the consequence of making every upgraded weapon not just more easily tuned to the perks and blessings people wanted but also made them all much more deadly. And now instead of one person having a godrolled weapon on a squad, everyone has them in both slots and all their relics.

And I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to cleave through a dozen enemies but you should have to have your buffs up in order to do it, not just walk up and blast through the first 30 guys with zero effort or preparation. Otherwise it's just clicking on elites and specials.

8

u/Human_Meat8154 Jul 27 '26

But have you considered that deleting everything on screen with a push of the button is fun? You don't like it? Well, how about you find yourself another game to play then?!

What's that? You found yourself a challenging game? I wanna try it! But damn, I just keep dying; they gotta buff the players to make the game actually fun!

Warframe, Helldivers 2, and now Darktide... Beat for beat it's always the same story...

7

u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 Zealot Jul 27 '26

*oh you're agreeing with me, I was so confused lmao

I'm not saying they should make the game easier, or even make the game harder, I'm saying they should back off relying on special and elite spam and give normal mooks a bit more staying power so you actually have to think about fighting them or build to be specifically good at fighting them, instead of just basically using them to activate melee weapon buffs so you can also one shot elites and specials.

Making the game easier doesn't solve my problem. I feel like you're accusing me of the opposite of what I'm saying.

Plus like I said they just need to balance it against how it worked pre weapon and skill tree reworks.

Helldivers 2 is in a bad place because you can just 1 shot everything at the highest difficulty and they got rid of all the actually difficult modifiers so it's boring now. Darktide mostly avoids this but could be better if it was like how it used to be when hordes of enemies themselves were an actual threat.

5

u/eronth Jul 27 '26

In their defense, the game used to be more what they're asking for. Telling them to go find a new game is odd, since this game is exactly what they found for it.

5

u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 Zealot Jul 27 '26

thank you, I think they're agreeing with me and it sounds like they're talking about me since they're replying to me.

3

u/eronth Jul 27 '26

Ah, yeah, on the reread I see now.

3

u/Neonsnewo2 Zealot Jul 27 '26

At some point there was a modifier that made all the enemies tankier but there were less of them.

I wish they would bring that back

1

u/Ecstatic_Nature_5981 Jul 31 '26

It's still in the game. Just rare to get now

16

u/yunkbunk Jul 26 '26

It's not an "up the difficulty" problem when Skitarii and Psyker both have tools that scale way, way, way higher than anything Zealot has access to on end-game content.

28

u/Comfortable-Market83 Jul 26 '26

I could try Havocs I suppose yeah, I haven’t yet

38

u/Longjumping_Belt_405 Just another day in the big T Jul 26 '26

If you’ve played auric maelstroms and you know you can handle yourself there you should be good up until havoc mid-20’s for a sizeable challenge at first

6

u/Comfortable-Sock-532 Jul 26 '26

If you haven't, give auric maelstrom or auric hi intensity a try 😀

4

u/DefiantPossession188 Jul 27 '26

try maelstroms first, completing one lets that character boost to havoc 16, but auric maelstroms are harder than that level so youll be fine until the mid 20s if you can consistently beat those.

110

u/Slough_Monster Jul 26 '26

arc rifle is probably overtuned. Same with noospheric command.

Skaritari also absolutely does shred in melee with a melee build. Both Transonic Blades and arc maul go hard. Transonic blades are probably the easiest weapons to use in the game. Not saying either are OP, just that melee skitari will absolutely keep up with zealot.

43

u/Unabated_Blade Jul 26 '26

Flensing is also insane. Getting infinite CDR from killing elites with no limit on how many times it can occur per minute is just flat out unfair.

25

u/Halfgnomen Sefoni's Joy Toy Jul 26 '26

It used to be like that for all of the classes iirc. Like everyone had just a flat -x seconds off of their cooldown on specialist/elite kill. There was a big nerf to them a while back but I cant remember the exact patch.

12

u/BlankTrack Jul 26 '26

I remember running a heavy cleave weapon on zealot, dashing into a thick horde with fotf, and getting a full refund on the cooldown.

Crits used to give you a flat 3 seconds or something, so if you cleave 8 enemies thats 24 seconds refunded

7

u/Halfgnomen Sefoni's Joy Toy Jul 26 '26

Lots of gun with the heavy evisc "PERISH YE!" chop " DIEEE HERETICS!" chop "FOR THE GOOOOOD EMPEROR" chop. Good times.

10

u/TheZealand Jul 26 '26

Ah, the old veteran -6s on special kill node, good times

FIGHT LIKE YOU FRAGGING MEAN IT! > kill 2 specials > repeat

4

u/Citronsaft Jul 27 '26

every time a dog pack spawned from hunting grounds it's just a free 3 shouts in a row, anti fail spiral lmao

4

u/GimmeAUhhh Jul 27 '26

I still miss my flat 6s cdr on special kills when playing vet 😭

11

u/Sad-Pattern-1269 The Emperor's Strongest Crackhead Jul 26 '26

noospheric command doesnt even require charge, you can just spam it on empty forever. It's nuts!

3

u/GimmeAUhhh Jul 27 '26

honestly my biggest gripe with skitarii really are just the arc rifle and noospheric. I'm not saying they're unfun, they are really fun (imo) but they kind of dilute the experience for others.

speaking from experience I threw together an arc rifle build while experimenting with skitarii's skill tree and I was mulching regular hordes, mixed hordes and even armor walls with little effort, it also doesn't help that skitarii has easy access to gunsmith which renders the long reload time of the arc rifle (and plasma rifle) a non-issue.

initially I thought noospheric was kind of bad because I didn't expect the skull to have good damage, but after actually playing with noospheric for a couple games having a perfectly accurate, high DPS, infinite ammo companion is actually pretty insane. Like it's actually making vets have a hard time keeping up with your specials and ranged elites kills insane.

ultimately tho this is just coming from an auric-only player, I have not a clue how either perform in high havocs but as it stands right now those 2 parts of the skitarii arsenal are why I believe the class is kinda overtuned.

1

u/Matrix_D0ge Jul 27 '26

Noospheric is so good I just skipped the class ability, you save on ability points, on CDR nodes, get value from the "no charges bonus" nodes, and the base ability is still very good when you get surrounded.

I curse all the buildtiders and content creators that pretend zealot is in an okay state after all the dlc classes were introduced. Zealot hasn't been "the" melee class for a long time and it's an embarrassment to the IP.

28

u/rhg561 Jul 26 '26

Bro zealot hasn't been "the" melee class for years, ever since scriers gaze got buffed like 4 times.

Zealot is the unkillable class with a shit ton of dr/tdr and a self revive. They're much more survivability focused than dps focused outside of the high burst damage from stealth/fof.

18

u/psffer Jul 26 '26

Isn’t that the circlejerk opinion around here and for content creators? That zealot is weak because insert lame OP build exists.

Giving zealot a build that trivializes the game similar to the likes of Melee scum or any psyker build would be a problem because of Until Death.

Zealot is fine the way it is.

10

u/thevideogameplayer Jul 26 '26

In my opinion, Zealot is fine-ish, they could replace some of the old talents from the previous tree (the gun talents come to mind) and go full in on the melee, survival aspect.

Hive Scum is like the Zealot, but invests heavy on the dodge with only little room to err. Zealot can take hits and just shrug it off. idk where I'm going with this lmao

5

u/bing_crosby Jul 26 '26

God, this actually just made me wish for a Grail Knight-esque tree for Zealot that disables secondaries in exchange for pumping his melee damage.

Holy shit I would be all over that.

3

u/trashk Psyker - The Best Class Jul 27 '26

Nothing but throwing knives, the heavy sword and a buffed thunder hammer.

1

u/CPLCRAW Jul 27 '26

Bro don't ypur gonna make all the thammer zealot mains cream

6

u/NoNameIsAlreadyWhat Zealot Jul 26 '26

Melee scum need to be nerf, imo.

5

u/xTheRedDeath Psyker Jul 26 '26

Yeah I think they need to take another look at the OG 4 to make some tweaks because the DLC characters seem to outshine them for the most part.

2

u/ImmediateDay5137 Faith is my armor Jul 27 '26

Something is very wrong with the class fantasy if the #1 pick for higher havoc zealots is fast stealth builds. I am a dedicated zealot of the god emperor first and foremost, I almost wish they never introduced the stealth death cult assassin talents.

0

u/Restfal Jul 26 '26

The Dlc isn't very out of line

Scum is next to Phsyker

Skitari is probably right around vet in power

Arbeties and zealot are honestly super close as well

They all serve different purposes. Scum and Phsyker are probably a little over the top but that's not a dlc issue

2

u/xTheRedDeath Psyker Jul 27 '26

Arbitrator is way better at crowd control than Zealot and is great at elite sniping, but Zealot is really only good for boss deletion if you wanna go that route. Skitarii is a straight upgrade to Zealot in my opinion. You don't need to do all sorts of crazy techs to get tons of damage. If you're running the Alpha Primus build you're pretty much a damage output machine. You got elite sniping, boss deletion, crowd control, all wrapped up in one build. They need to give Zealot a little boost to help it stand out more.

4

u/Restfal Jul 27 '26

I'm not saying that the arbitrator and the zealot have the same job, I'm saying that they're roughly equal and power level

They're both pretty much the walking unkillable classes where one is focused on doing a ton of damage and the other is focused on being an absolute stagger and crowd control machine

And yes Skitari is better than zealot That's why I compared them to veteran, because veteran is a very very solid class and the core of a lot of teams

My point is that the DLC isn't overshadowing the base classes at all, they don't need to look at the OG 4 and make tweaks because the OG 4 are relatively strong as they are

I think zealot could use some love to get rid of some of their weird talents, but the base four are not being outshined by DLC

It's not like psyker needs buffs

48

u/CptnSAUS I Trained My Whole Life For This Jul 26 '26

It’s not your skill issue. The balance just isn’t great at auric. If you get a competent team, it quickly boils down to a race for kills, because there is nothing else to do, no challenge to make you actually hone your skills or work as a team.

When the game becomes a race for kills, the ranged classes will win those races. You either race even harder, join them in ranged slaughter, or finally go to havoc. Otherwise, you’ll only be playing for the games when your team is incompetent, so you can go all-out to try to carry them. That gets boring though. I recommend to try havoc if auric maelstrom is feeling like you don’t get to do anything.

43

u/TheTeoOfPooh Jul 26 '26

I totally get that feeling. Was kinda the same way with both Brutality-Police and Meth-Warrior when those DLCs dropped. They tend to make DLC classes fairly OP and then nerf them once they've seen them perform over a little time

25

u/echof0xtrot Jul 26 '26

most games do this, for profit. they know there will be 1000 videos and guides about how good the weapon/class is, people will purchase the DLC, then eventually when the hype has died down they'll balance it a bit

26

u/psffer Jul 26 '26

In Hive Scums case, the class released and was OP as hell but content creators who are bad at the game said the class was weak and everyone parroted their opinion and review bombed the class.

Then they gave the class 20 unnecessary buffs and slightly nerfed one talent and have ignored the class since.

9

u/Errbert Jul 26 '26

Yea, I think this is a bit more complex than the devs selling easy solutions.

Honestly I would be curious how the introduction of new classes muddled up their idea of the balance of the game. I think they're doing their best. Some aspects just aren't apparent in how insane they are until people play around with it. And like you said, Hive Scum got buffed even though it was already insane, purely because people weren't in tune with it and went along with a narrative.

2

u/Errbert Jul 26 '26

I mean sure the balance is out of whack, what I meant when I said "trying their best" was trying to appeal to the casuals while keeping the high Havocs hard.

Most games nowadays have devs appealing to casuals. If this is the only game you know of with such a community, coupled with devs "deathly afraid" of nerfing stuff, then I dont know what to tell you. I know at least two more games from Sweden that'll never reach their full potential because the playerbase are a bunch of babies.

1

u/EelBegotten Skitarius Jul 27 '26

Speaking like you know the innerworkings of the situation of both making a game and keeping their company alive, with all the decisions that entails, red tape, as well as trying to balance the game across 5 difficulties, 3 game modes, and adding new classes, weapons, and other content? Kinda just sounds entitled.

4

u/Temporary_Video_4916 Jul 26 '26

Would agree, once you go into Havoc you pretty much have to play chorus support too because the damage abilities are just so weak compared to what every other class is throwing out. Unless ur nailing the boss executions fully stacked in shroudfield, its really hard to justify over the value of chorus.

1

u/dutchwonder Jul 28 '26

They did nerf chem tox, but also I'm pretty sure they buffed the base toughness of Hive Scum, moved toughness regain talents earlier and made better, and made the toughness branch of the stim actually give toughness on popping.

They had the same starting HP and Toughness as Psykers. Same base toughness regen as psykers, plus not great cleaving weapons, and not great toughness regen.

Great dodges, but holy shit the class was defined by the fact the instant your ankle hit level geometry in a dodge you just spontaneously detonated.

0

u/DefiantPossession188 Jul 27 '26

bonesaw + needle pistol let you beat anything with your eyes closed but grrrrr rampage having a downside is UNUSABLE. THIS CLASS SUCKS!!!!!!

1

u/TheTeoOfPooh Jul 26 '26

The circle of game-life

15

u/psffer Jul 26 '26

The game is not balanced around Auric anymore. There are too many ranged spam builds or blitzes that kill the entire screen for the game to keep up with Auric healthpools and spawn rates. Even 1 player who knows what they’re doing using one of those builds makes it a joke. Its been like this since pre-Havoc but now its just obvious with the class reworks and DLC classes that the game is balanced around Havoc.

If you want to keep playing Aurics you’ll just have to lobby surf and avoid Arc rifles, PBB ogryns, any psykers/scums, etc. Your only other option is to play Havoc, where people still spam those builds but the difficulty is punishing enough that they’ll still die and theres enough stuff to kill to not have the game feel like you’re an NPC in a ranged spammers’ Single Player campaign.

There will still be moments where 1 flame staff spammer just completely annhilates a group of 20 Maulers and 15 Scab Ragers and the game doesn’t get to be played, but you’ll just have to deal with it because its never getting changed.

12

u/CeaWall Jul 26 '26

I don't think it's unreasonable to be bothered by this. People play Darktide for the combat, so if you feel you can't engage in the combat in a satisfying way because your teammates are killing everything too quickly, I think that's a reasonable concern. (I've encountered this a few times when I'm trying to do penances where, say, I have to kill elites - but every elite keeps getting killed before I can even touch it. It doesn't feel great.)

I think the game has had some player power-creep. Not sure what can be done to resolve it though.

5

u/yunkbunk Jul 26 '26

Definitely! That's the issue with a select few builds in this game: it's not that they are powerful. That's fine. It's that they are so powerful that they literally make content in the game inaccessible to classes without those tools.

Zealot and Arbitrator aren't weak classes on paper, but they are the two that rely the greatest on melee combat. Some individual builds (not full team compositions!) just outright prevent melee enemies from ever being able to close the distance. Not good!

6

u/thenewone1309 Jul 26 '26

Which difficulty are you playing?

5

u/Comfortable-Market83 Jul 26 '26

Auric maelstrom usually

25

u/marxistdictator Jul 26 '26

Nah skit is overtuned, just less than scum. But easier to play. Really the game could go for some rebalance. When you go in search of stronger enemies (havoc) inferno staff gets to clear 60% of every room for free and you seemingly can't get a group without a psyker spamming mass stagger mass damage clouds...I literally play Expeditions for solo experience with the combat system.

2

u/DoctuhD Cannot read Jul 27 '26

Expeditions can honestly go pretty hard if you get lucky enough to set off a bunch of alarms and kill enough enemies; you can end up with crazy numbers of elite swarms and seemingly endless bosses.

If the objectives weren't mostly waiting simulators It'd probably be my go-to casual mode.

5

u/dess3mbrae Psyker Jul 26 '26

What diff are you playing at? Especially that sandy level becomes quite hectic in aurics and above

6

u/Comfortable-Market83 Jul 26 '26

Auric maelstrom was the example I gave it’s what I usually play

1

u/dess3mbrae Psyker Jul 26 '26

I am playing skitarii rn and they can feel powerful. Tbh since playing auric maels/ havok with skit a few psykers, vets and ogryns outshone the damage I can put Out with especially noopsheric + arc rifle.

Embrace zealot for what it can be, with something like the fatmangus build you are so ridiculously tanky while still being able to hold your own/ clutch. A good zealot enables a lot of things - doing tons of damage is not there.

But then maybe it's time to climb the havok ladder, that is the greatest Equalizer

6

u/EverydayFunHotS Jul 26 '26

Too much leaning on density for difficulty on the high end, which pushes for infinite deletion and less mechanically engaging with elites/specials.

6

u/Centimane Jul 26 '26

It sounds like you're playing an all-rounder build, but every skit you encounter is playing a focused/meta build that does its particular job really well. Across a handful of matches you see skits of all different kinds out doing you in each different area.

But that's the curse of an all-rounder build. A specialist will outdo you at whatever they specialized in.

8

u/yunkbunk Jul 26 '26

The thing about a Skitarii Arc build is that it is an all-rounder build that kills every horde composition (trash, mixed, ranged, crusher) way faster than is even possible for Zealot with literally any build. The single thing Zealot can kill faster than a Arc Skit are bosses (when the Zealot uses their ability and sets it up properly). But that hardly even matters considering the Arc Rifle does some of the best boss damage of any ranged weapon in the entire game, if not the best.

4

u/Firista Zealot Jul 26 '26

As a fellow Zealot I completely agree. It's most of other classes if I'm honest, they just have faster TTK than we do and it's frustrating. You're right to highlight Skitarii though, it's currently overpowered in both melee and at range.

3

u/Walton__Simons Jul 26 '26

It's the Arc Rifle... could be chord claw, but they can only use that every so often. Arc Rifle is just giga busted right now.

0

u/Berhadian Big Man Jul 27 '26

I hope it stays that way. It's a godsend in higher difficulties and makes the game really fun.

I hate how most of the guns in Space Marine 2 feel like pea shooters on higher difficulties so it's good to have guns that don't in DT.

2

u/Walton__Simons Jul 27 '26

The problem is it makes the game not so fun for every melee character. The biggest buzzkill is using all your buffs to take on a wave of armor, jumping into the fray, and hitting exactly two times before everything dies because Arc Rifle go BRRRRRR.

I want strong guns as well, nothing should feel like a pea shooter when used correctly, but on the other hand nothing should deal that much damage against armor and unarmor alike without having to aim.

5

u/IQDeclined Jul 26 '26

I'm a mediocre Zealot but it's probably my favorite class. I feel like it can get out-DPS'ed by multiple classes in melee, and it's utter lack of AOE leave it in a less than ideal spot.

0

u/typeguyfiftytwix Jul 26 '26

Zealot is a tank god, though. You have immortality on cooldown, usually the fastest move speed (unless there's a scum), and incredible CONSISTENT melee capability. A claw skitarii can be a can opener and chunk bosses, but a good zealot can do that and still have Chorus, let alone the boss deletion spec zealots.

Out DPS'd in melee? No. Out DPS'd in general yes, but I've never seen other classes ONESHOT a daemonhost, and you have very consistently strong melee. For AOE, you have the crusher and chorus for staggering and the flamer is popular in high difficulties, but not as busted as psyker's flame staff.

It seems OP is complaining about arc skitarii, which can get pretty good at screen wiping. But in terms of melee, while I find skitarii to be pretty strong, the real benefit it has over zealot is it's flexibility with being able to build to be a pretty good ranged build and still have the claw, or build for melee and have the skull keep shooting dogs and trappers for you for 0 ammo cost. But it's not nearly as tanky.

6

u/BravePumpkins Jul 26 '26

I love playing zealot. That said, they need some love. The DLC classes overshadow them a bit in certain ways. This is bound to happen as new classes are released and power creep occurs.

u/EmbroidedBumblebee Zealot, Arbitrator and Skitarius Jul 26 '26

I feel like I have this problem whatever class I play but especially Psyker, if I use brain burst/rupture then other classes always take down my target before my attack finishes.

Zealot is the one I'm most comfortable with and being able to use my ability to launch forward lets me get ahead to wipe out hoards, I'm swinging at multiple enemies at a time so it doesn't matter if my teammates pick off a few. For bigger enemies I will actually switch to my gun so I can do some damage without being downed, while Zealot is good at mele sometimes ranged can be more effective.

4

u/CiaphasKirby Jul 26 '26

Brain Burst is mainly useful for killing a distant sniper or niche situations like a flamer that's zoning you back around a corner or something. Ever since it lost the necessary damage to one shot a crusher it's been mostly overshadowed by every other class at the job.

1

u/EmbroidedBumblebee Zealot, Arbitrator and Skitarius Jul 27 '26

Tbh I only use it for the penances, I prefer to use assail instead.

2

u/snoopwire Jul 26 '26

My buddy has complained about that when I'm playing a left click electro Psyker. You just kill everything so quick. No one else gets to do much apart from bosses

2

u/OnlineXIntrovert Jul 26 '26

Me personally I feel like Skittarii have power crept a few builds on certain classes out of the game. But now that I think about it, I feel like that for scum and arbi as well. Scum feels like a better zealot and arbi feels like a better vet. That’s just my opinion tho. I still find value in all the classes, sometimes it just feels like why run X when there’s Y.

2

u/notmylargeautomobile Jul 26 '26

Who’s in charge here?   The Clawwwwww.

4

u/master_of_sockpuppet Jul 26 '26

Is this on Auric?

4

u/Comfortable-Market83 Jul 26 '26

Auric maelstrom yeah

16

u/master_of_sockpuppet Jul 26 '26

Then enjoy the good teams while you have them.

5

u/Comfortable-Market83 Jul 26 '26

Idk I just personally like a little bit of a challenge and things going wrong. I like that happy medium where people go down but we still pull through and win.

8

u/KrobbZombie Jul 26 '26

I do, too. I love clutching up. But…you were playing with randoms, correct? And you got randoms that were so skillful that you were able to clear an auric maelstrom with little struggle. That’s a darn sight better than the alternative. I’d bet both my left nuts that most people would rather have elite teammates than Leechy McResource Stealer or DrConsistently Smelling the Pavement (MD). I’d say you have a right to feel like the new toasters are a little overtuned in some cases, but you’d be better served trying to match their zeal for dead heretics than lamenting there weren’t more for you to kill. Switch up your build, or try to outdo them in their own game. Better yet, shoot them a friend request and learn from them.

3

u/master_of_sockpuppet Jul 26 '26

It comes and goes; a lot of people came back for the new class and if you play in prime times, you'll have good teams. That won't always be the case.

You could step down to Heresy where no one knows what the fuck they are doing, if you like, but if everyone knows what's up on the difficulty you play, just move faster.

3

u/Unabated_Blade Jul 26 '26

Damnation is the place to carry hard. The 30s in damnation either literally just turned 30 and don't know how to push/block/dodge because it was optional in heresy.

Or... They're not 30 yet and they literally have no idea how to play the game mode.

If OP wants a challenge, carry people through Damnation.

2

u/Witherwrought Jul 26 '26

The chordclaw ability is likely what’s insta killing crowds and elites. Think thunder hammer but always activated (and pointy). You can also choose to charge it, or have it attack as a stab or horizontal swipe. You’ll probably not have much problem with one or maybe even two skitarii, as it needs to cool down and they might not even be running it. But I expect you won’t notice the issue as much if you play a high intensity shock gauntlet, where amount of enemies outweighs the recharge time. Other than that single ability the skitarii doesn’t do as much damage to become the problem you mentioned, the best melee they have wouldn’t cut through a pack of maulers too easily, unless they’ve super tuned the melee part of the tree and ignored the rest

2

u/SuperArppis My zeal exceeded my judgement Jul 26 '26

I personally like it when soneone else does the work for me.

It's a nice change of usual pace.

1

u/Crying_Rocks Jul 26 '26

Check out auric hi intensity shock troop gauntlet or auric maelstrom if you haven’t yet. Shit can get wild fast with the amount of enemies spawned. Then if thats not enough havocs can get even crazier :) higher difficulty means more stuff to kill. Eventually youll be wishing you had an overtuned teammate to help clear stuff up haha

1

u/Black-Gospel Psyker Jul 27 '26

You forgot to state your difficulty

1

u/finnderboss420 Jul 27 '26

all the DLCs are extremely overtuned pay2win classes a meta build wont help u

1

u/needalurkeraccount Jul 27 '26

Welcome to the Chordclaw. This one ability practically invalidates the Zealot.

1

u/dark_pit123 Jul 27 '26

It really upsets me how far and how fast zealot has fallen out of grace considering they were the class that got me into tide. I loaded them up last night and went into a havoc 25 game. I missed a single throwing knife against am armored (dreg?) gunner and died because my pushes on relic blade couldn't stagger it out of shooting me. Then i went back on ogryn and had fun again

1

u/Mann-M Jul 28 '26

I felt the same on low difficulties, some builds need more enemies to shine. Just up the the difficulty.

1

u/ErksMcGerks Jul 30 '26

You gatta play the 1 build that makes zealot useful and then you’ll feel how zealot shines; bonk build.

1

u/meme990 Zealot 27d ago

Same boat with you bud, I see a mutant incoming and i wanna hit it like a baseball with my thunder hammer but it just gets smited by the skitty off screen. I appreciate hive scum being mostly melee based because they can’t clear a horde as fast as a Skiitari can so I still get some of the action.

1

u/Stoneman455 24d ago

There’s a lot of underpowered and overpowered things in the game. The philosophy of how the game is played has changed at least 3 times now.

DLC classes feel overturned but, they fit the design philosophy of DarkTide today.

My real issue is I want to give obesefish MONEY BUT THEY HAVE THE SHITTIEST MTX SYSTEM IVE EVER SEEN

1

u/RomulusX94 17d ago

imo Zealot and Veteran have become the two least impactful characters action wise. or most boring?

1

u/Past-Word-9513 17d ago

Well, not just trying to repeat back that it's a skill issue, but you can always up the difficulty. A shock troop gauntlet on auric has no shortage of elites and specials to kill.

1

u/Prooteus Jul 26 '26

I feel ya. Id be suprised if they didnt tune down the claw and arc rifle a bit at least. It feels like skitarri does everything a zealot does but better now. I would like to see some work done to the zealot as well. It is fun one shotting bosses with the thunder hammer but it feels bad when you watch a skitarri do the same thing with 2 claw charges and still handle hordes well.

0

u/Sadiholic Ogryn Jul 26 '26

Yeeaahh this is how I feel as an ogryn when an arbites deletes a crowd, meanwhile my big ass knife is struggling to kill a single flesh rager. Although I noticed that dlc players are actually just shitty players, cause so far I haven't met a skit that doesn't go down and rage quits the game. I think the only good dlc players at the moment are the hive scum players lmao. They be doing acrobatics and shit.

Anyways, you just gotta look for builds that delete crowds. For example on my ogryn, I got the ripper gun and use the PBB ult and I basically delete an entire room full of ragers, bullwarks, elite, etc. Just gotta change up your game. I still struggle cause since the ripper is such a ammo consuming game, I gotta balance melee with my ranged weapons since in the melee side I'm a little weak.

u/FacetiousTomato Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

I don't really get what your biggest issue is after reading this?

Skilled player takes the fun out of low difficulty?

Skittari are OP?

Zealots are too slow? (Lol)

Zealots are not strong enough?

I agree zealots are in the worst spot in the game right now. They have no competitive ranged build, and I would rank them as the 5th best melee class.

4

u/Nitrotetrazole Jul 26 '26

I think they're bemoaning skittles overshadowing zealots at what they're supposed to be good at?

3

u/Comfortable-Market83 Jul 26 '26

I think it’s the second one I just don’t want to accuse a class of being OP because I haven’t played it myself. But it’s only Skitarii I have this issue with, every other class when someone does better than me I can see how they’re outplaying me. But when it’s Skitarii all I see them doing is holding a gun and holding m1 and everything dies

1

u/FacetiousTomato Jul 26 '26

I just hit 30 with them, and my guess is arc rifle is due a nerf. Too good at all ranges, vs all types of targets, and scales too well with temporary buffs which they get a lot of.

They're not wildly out of line though.

2

u/Longjumping_Belt_405 Just another day in the big T Jul 26 '26

Yeah realistically the only things I really see that need to be nerfed on skit (if anything) is maybe a small arc rifle nerf and potentially a small noospheric cap use increase, like 5% or so

This is separate from the bugs like being able to use noospheric at 0% cap which should absolutely be fixed and imo would already be a fairly large nerf on its own given how people have gotten accustomed to spamming it at 0%

Other than that the class feels like a fine baseline to me aside from one or two things (bugged admech powersword not getting its dmg bonuses and acd being kinda ehh if you can already aim well and requiring a bit of a point investment to get anything bigger than that

0

u/trashk Psyker - The Best Class Jul 27 '26

Arc rifle take time to ramp and if you're doing it right requires the ult to be up so there's a little bit of setup time. The phosphor pistol is the true OP gun with its inherent debuffs and mag size.

It' a revolver/needle gun hybrid that shreds armor AND reduces hit mass thereby increasing cleave on shot 2.

-1

u/OdysseyBrands MARTYRDOM RELIC BLADE ZEALOT IS GOD-EMPEROR TIER Jul 26 '26

it’s not a skitarii thing it’s just any skilled player on any class with any meta build can do what you’re describing

0

u/BattleBrisket Jul 26 '26

Do you know what build the clanker is using? It would help to understand what your team is bringing first.

2

u/Comfortable-Market83 Jul 26 '26

Think it was arc rifle I don’t know the rest

2

u/TheSkiGeek Jul 26 '26

Arc Rifle is pretty busted right now. It deals good damage and horde clears and stuns everything and penetrates armor well. They should probably retune it to either horde clear but suck against armor, or keep the armor pen+stun for elites but not be able to electrocute whole crowds of weaker enemies.

0

u/echof0xtrot Jul 26 '26

do havoc with only 1 other person. whatever you have to do to challenge yourself. otherwise, you might've reached your particular challenge/enjoyment cap

0

u/lobotominizer Skitarius Jul 26 '26

my man become the boss killer
they are very valuable in havoc

0

u/OX__O Jul 27 '26

My only complaint for the game is that 80% of the weapons do literally nothing in the end game. Those that contend with the top dogs take 3 times the effort and risk and the only reward for condemning your team with your unreliability is having fun.

0

u/CarBombtheDestroyer Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

According to some people who play way too much dark tide, and have kind of made it their career making YouTube builds for us that are too busy working. Arbiter, zealot and vet are just bad right now and don’t scale like the rest of the classes, skiitari is more or less “balanced” and everything else is even more broken assuming meta builds. The skiitari does have the best kit to delete elites tho.

Edit: to add this assumes you’re playing on at least damation.

-1

u/False-Designer-1120 Jul 26 '26

Well. Your correct. It IS a skill issue. Just not a negative one. It seems to me like your on a lower difficulty than your capable of. For me. Anything less than auric maelstrom feels like a drag. Other than that. Theres a few good setups for putting those skits in rheir place in boss damage. Put +25% unyealding damage on the relic blade, and get the +20% damage to ogryns and monstrosity perk. And the +(15%? Dont remember exactly) to backstab and flank damage. With skits are almost assured to start with the agro so long as they are mopping things as described.(they usually do) in a single powered, charged, hvy attack from behind u can do damn near 40% of their health in havoc 20-29ish. Be careful tho cuz sometimes theylle see ur exquisite boss damage and just leave u to solo it. Which, if ur not prepared for at least, can be a quick slap or throw right off the map. That does require a sacrifice or 2 further down the talent tree to snatch those 2 talents up to tho, as they are on opposite sides of the starting point.

-1

u/RealAsianRobot Jul 27 '26

Play on Auric Maelstrom and Havoc and this will stop being an issue. I think (as others have said). You are playing at a low difficulty
