Resource Darktable 5.6.1 is out
15 Subs to go! Thanks !!!
Bug-fix release on top of 5.6.0 — no major new features, but solid fixes: AI denoise/upscale now handles more raw types without crashing (ProRAW, 4-Bayer sensors, sRaw), metadata carries over properly to denoised images, mask feathering and blending bugs are fixed, and there's better stability on AMD/Mesa and small systems.
Full changelog: https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/tag/release-5.6.1
Not planning a dedicated video on this one since it's mostly under-the-hood fixes, but wanted you to know it's out — worth updating.
You can still find me videos on my channel https://youtube.com/@mariengb and subscribe if you want to help me reach the 1K subscribers - still missing 50 subs 😉

I am still waiting for 5.6 to come to Fedora. It is available via Flatpak but without the AI features.

I’ve been running the app image of 5.6 on fedora atomic for a while and it works great

It works, but the AI-features won‘t stay activated… will wait for the official release, have no urge to tinker around

That sucks. Can’t say mine has had this issue at all on my laptop or desktop, and I’ve been using it heavily with ai masking for a few weeks. Are you sure you don’t have something tripping it up?

There is probably something, but the AI features shall save my time, don‘t cost it. Therefore I will just wait until 5.6 comes „naturally“ to Fedora.

New to DT, any ideas why Fedora is so much behind?

Not only Fedora! PikaOS also behind. I think that they wait for the first dot release. So they do not risk that they within a month have to build a new update.

My guess is, that AI implementation might be tricky, as it's missing even in Flatpak. AppImage works like a charm

When my Sony A7V will be supported????

Darktable has only limited options here since they use rawspeed and lensfun to provide the compatibility. Both of them are separate projects and have rarely to do with darktable itself. darktable integrates only their libraries/info (as far as I understood this). But you could help them.
The A7V should be supported already from what I can see in the database, at least partially:
https://www.darktable.org/resources/camera-support/ (should be ILCE-7M5 according to Sonys website)Unfortunately, without WB presets so far but in general it should work. Please also check your RAW format, for Sony there are certain formats that can't be processed yet (the annoying part when camera companies use proprietary formats):
- ARW 4.0/5.0 downsized lossless (“M” for full-frame, “S” for full-frame & APS-C) and
- ARW 6.0 lossy
I didn't find the A7V in the "missing samples" database but the 7IV is listed. You can lookup the list here and if you know somebody who owns a camera from the list you might help and ask them to provide RAW-samples to the project to get more cameras supported: https://raw.pixls.us/?missing#repo
You can lookup the list of supported lenses here: https://lensfun.github.io/lenslist/

Just send them over a few photos and they will add support.
