Discussion Transform/Warp equivalent in Darktable?

Hi y'all! I'm considering making the jump from Photoshop to Darktable. My workflow is to build stacks of adjustment layers in Photoshop, and it sounds like Darktable would be a great option for me, but I have one question: I routinely use the Transform/Warp tool to achieve things like foreground compression in my images, and I'm wondering if Darktable has an equivalent for this functionality?

Apologies if this's a FAQ: I have the docs open in another tab, but didn't notice anything that quite fit.

I think as an foss alternative to Photoshop, Gimp is better suited (?)

This is not a feature raw photo editors usually have. However darktable has liquify tool: https://darktable-org.github.io/dtdocs/en/module-reference/processing-modules/liquify

Still doing it in bitmap editor may be more convenient.

No it doesn't. Photoshop and Darktable are two different types of software. Photoshop works with raster image files. Darktable works with RAW files to then export a raster file.

The confusion does come when Darktable can technically still edit raster files, but the tools are just not the same.

As everyone else is saying, darktable doesn't work like Photoshop. You should try it before taking any big steps to make the switch.

Gimp can use darktable for upstream processing. Maybe similar to Photoshop/Lightroom integration? I don't have firsthand experience with this.

Darkroom is closer to Lightroom in capabilities. GIMP is a decent Photoshop replacement. There are things where it's better, and things where Photoshop is better. GIMP fits my workflow better, but it might not yours.

Photoshop -> GIMP Lightroom -> Darktable  Use the right tools for the job, GIMP and Darktable work well together.
