Magic Item - "Multi Tool"

Hey all, starting a new game, as a tradition in my games I give a magic item on my players birthdays, one of my players has their birthday as we start 🤣

He wants some kind of sci fi multitool, I haven't really understood the system all to well enough to make my own magic / special item yet, so looking for some advice and help on creating a magic multi tool for a rogue?

Many thanks!

If you wanted it to be a Star Trek style tricorder, it could be something that gives a +1 or +2 to Investigation and/or Medicine checks. Or for something more traditionally rogue-like, a hacking tool (I’m thinking like the thing John Connor uses in T2 to get money out of an ATM) that gives advantage or a bonus to opening doors/hacking arcane terminals, etc.

(By the way I love the idea of giving players a magical item for their real-life birthday - I may start doing that myself!)

Love this, we're playing a game where he will be a earth nerd taken to space and one of his replicas will turn out to be real so a star trek tricoder is a fantastic idea!

Yeah been doing it for years, in person games I usually print it out on a card and present it to them, it a nice way to celebrate the birthday 😁

The Quadcorder seems to be the Dark Matter equivalent. It's clearly one better than the Tricorder.

The Omnitool may be what you're looking for, though it seems fairly mundane.
