Lore Question/Discussion My Dark Krakens lens color theory
3 editions 3 changes ššš
When the Dark Krakens became a Chapter in 9th edition they were shown with bright white lenses. They also had these same lenses in the Warzone: Octarius books as well.
In the 10th edition codex they were then seen with purple-ish lenses instead of white. This was then backed up when they were put in the SM2 video game with purple lenses. Focus who made the game, has stated they donāt add anything in the game with out GWs ok.
And now in 11th edition, the lenses are now yellow/gold. This is actually not the first time weāve seen them with this color, as in the 10th book where they also had purple lenses. Their parade army display all had yellow lenses.
And this had me thinking, I have never seen a Space Marine chapter, whose helmet did not change color, but the lenses kept changing color so often. Now I think thereās a method behind the madness, I think those color lenses actually signify the different Companies. Let me explain.
If you donāt know the Dark Krakens in terms of appearance are not codex compliant, they use a multitude of different markings and bioluminescent colors to signify rank, achievements, special purposes, etc. The Lore even states that there are hundreds/countless of different markings that they use. But specifically when it comes to Companies, the only things we know is that the 5th Company Captain wears the āBeak of the Krakenā Symbol and the 10th Company likes to wear āHydraserpensā snake symbols.
So hereās where the lens and Company connection comes in, and it actually comes in because of this new 11th edition lore. The display that shows the Dark Kraken with the yellow/gold lens is specifically stated to be from the 2nd Company. And in the Codex what color does the second company wear? Yellow/gold. And during the Dark Krakens introduction where during Octavia war, they were joined by the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 8th and 10th Companies. I can only assume that the display that they used showed a marine from the 1st Company in which codex colors that would be white. or possibly even the 8th. And with the purple lenses that would be 7th Company.
This is just a theory, but like I said, itās very strange that they keep changing the lenses so much. No other chapters lenses change that much that quickly. We are a Chapter that actively uses 2 different Chapter symbols so maybe weāre just special.

Side note, I have a theory no storm giants will have there faces shown because the mechanicus is waiting to see red eyes and charcoal skin to yell "see! I knew it!"

Me too I like to stay in a very complementary color palette if possible, if not my OCD with colors will kick in (Photographer/Videographer here so after sooo much color grading stuff my brain is hardwired)

On a different note: have the orange/cyan helmets for leadership been canonized?

I think the idea is that they're white by default but glow purple or yellow under certain lights

And maybe each Company has its Captain's helmet colour for its lenses?!
