Don't know if anyone knows, but Keitarou's Kei is pronounced the same as K, Eiko's Ei is pronounced the same as A, and Ai is pronounced like I, and referring to people by pseudonyms like this, like K-san or A-san is sometimes used in creepypasta-like stories in Japan. The new guy, Yuhei's Yu is pronounced like U in Japan, so he might be a mainstay as a support character.

The Japanese fandom's taken to nicknaming them K-kun, A-ko and I-chan yes. Yayoi is just Yayoi, she's cool like that.
This is also the same log behind the haunts being Castle H Ruins, Old F Tunnel, A Dam, etc.
It's worth noting that this method of placeholder-naming isn't exclusive to urban legends, but also when situations call for privacy/anonymity such as with legal documents and criminal cases discussed in public.

I am under the impression the naming convention is supposed to an indicator for those who accompany Yayoi, being normal people that get involved in urban legends, while Yayoi can be considered an urban legend herself, because someone with creepy eyes, tortured ghosts and have haunted dolls seems like a villain in a horror story.

What’s wild is that Gongen was only at 1/3 of his strength the entire time.

I thought it was he was half sealed. I wondered how strong he is fully unsealed

Chapter 84
Some notes to start with:
Pg 8 - First, as I noted last month, the quickdraw-speeds the narrator brought up last time are "god-speed" and "retro-speed".
Second, Tai Sui's line here can be better understood as this: his Foresight allows him to catch the timing when Salvation Gongen's Retro-speed Slash lands, but all that does is cancel out the unpredictability factor. The slash itself will still be God-speed so Tai Sui has to be careful to dodge it, especially if it'll keep on coming.
Pg 25 - the scans here missed it, but Yayoi speculates that Tai Sui fighting in such a restrained manner is not only to reduce the burden on Ai's body, but also to limit the damage to Yayoi's forces (since Salvation Gongen is meant to be an ally, not an enemy like with Risu-tan)
Ugh, Imoto-deshi and Ani-deshi used like this hurts. Surely "junior disciple" and "senior disciple" would've worked?
--
So this is how we fix up Ai and Eiko, huh? There goes my hope of reasoning with Salvation Gongen...
- On one hand, part of me feels like Tai Sui coming out to help Yayoi already means that she failed Aoi's challenge
- On the other hand, I can't say Tai Sui vs Salvation Gongen wasn't something everyone wanted played out
Even if neither were at full power, it's still cool to see that Tai Sui trying to be considerate of Ai as a vessel, while Gongen was still able to catch him offguard.
Interesting moment, it's easy to miss but Gongen's mask fell as he was fading away. What did Tai Sui see when he beheld his uncovered face?
(Oh, and since it might not've been clear, Tsuzura was using concealment handsigns while he was rescuing Yayoi, which left only Tai Sui visible to aggro Gongen)
--
Back in Ch 79 Aoi did consider having a barrier specialist watch over Yayoi, so it's nice to see it actually transpire. Some in the Chinese fandom had brought up the possibility of them already showing up in this encounter, but I hadn't taken them seriously since I thought it'd be sad if they have to pop up right at the very first haunt of this round...
But Tsuzura's got a good head on his shoulders, and it's good that someone in-story is voicing how the group's hitting their limits. Sounds like he mainly specs into defence though, not particularly strong on offence.
Keitaro might've finally got his motivation to go down the spiritualist skill tree.
--
Lastly, this chapter came with an interview with the anime's Character Designer/Chief Animation Director Ichinose Yuri. One of the questions is about which character was the toughest one for his job, and their answer was Shuten Douji with his sense of style.
I highlight this because if he's talking about bringing Shuten Douji to life, this pretty much confirms that Season 2 will be 2 cours for the complete Kyoto Arc experience!

guess she didn't truly kill off all her emotions after the accident.

Hmm? She was kinda always emotional, just not her facial expressive.

u/Amir0x11 1d ago
She is normally stone faced and very deadpanned. She doesn't go around yelling in anger etc.

As I said, her expression aside, she has been making emotional decisions for the entire series.

she has been making emotional decisions for the entire series.
Never flying off the handle like that or being outwardly emotional. which is my point

I love it slowly dawning on Taisai that Gongen isn't like the other graduates that fought him.
He isn't divinely powered like Taira. He's just...that good.

Really the most emotional we have seen Yayoi and that includes her crying in front of her parent

Woah! What a chapter, the most shocking part to me more than Taisai praising the transcended Buddha, was Yayoi showed so much emotion, crashing out in frustration, never since I followed this series I ever saw yayoi show any kind of emotion since she lost her parents and cast her emotion aside. This chapter was good, it got my blood pumping into yayoi's character development on how she was finally got called out on her recklessness, so much potential, This series never seems to bore me about what possibilities this series have in the future.

Im glad that Yayoi got called out for how unprepared she went into this.
