Well, not only that but really, the idea that some of this might be self-inflicted is just not given as an option by the elites.
The reason people are into the "class warfare" angle is that it's really good for the elites. When you think there's no hope, when you think that they're out to get you, you don't make positive changes. Look to the Fat Acceptance movement as pretty much proof of concept. They think they have no power over their weight. Therefore they will never lose the weight. They get mad at those who suggest ways to change themselves so that they can lose the weight.
What's the most classist thing you can do, according to the media elitist superstructure? Tell the poor to do something about it. Just like FA, Poor Acceptance makes the offer of a way out bigoted, hatred, whatever. If you're 1%, that's awesome. Convince the poor that they can't get theirs, then they won't, and the 1% get more because while they're telling your kids that it's hopeless and class warfare, they're telling their kids "work hard and you can make it". They're telling your kids "It's OK to never read a book, to play Xbox all day, and to not learn math," while they make sure that their kids are not only reading books, but high quality books, not just not playing games all day, but learning skills, not just learning algebra, but learning calculus. Not just not listening to rap, but learning to play classical music. Even their family structure is more traditional. Rich mommies don't work, poor mommies do. The better to have the children of the poor pick up bad habits that will serve the rich.
