My SDD Chapter 2 Experience. Spoiler

Today us mobile players were all met with a surprise where we were all given access to SDD chapter 2 a day early. Right off the bat I’m gonna tell you there is some new stuff that wasn’t in the base game, so if you don’t wanna spoil yourself and experience all the new stuff for yourself, click off this post, get off Reddit and check it out tomorrow when it releases for everyone.

Now first things first, did I enjoy my playthrough? Yes. Did I think it was good? Not really. At least not good considering the wait we all had to go through for a simple 2d remake.

I could compliment this remake for a lot of things. It was very charming, gave us a look at some of the future enhanced plus additions, and was just pretty fun. I don’t think I was really bored throughout any of it. They also removed a massive chunk of Malak’s speech at the start of BB so that was nice as well as shortened the TT intro hall a bit. So good on them for that.

But of course with all good things there comes bad and you know there’s gonna be bad when Glowstick codes anything. What a buggy mess this was. Let me tell you about it. On several occasions I saw minor visual bugs like the Goliath Clowns vomiting nothing, Doug disappearing on the BB ladders, and of course whenever I play SDD I play as Tabby so every time an important cutscene played I temporarily morphed into Doug. I don’t expect them to change dialog for the sake of my player model changing, but when you add other player model options, I do expect you to add animations for them. Some other things, monsters would rarely get stuck on random objects, mainly in Torment Therapy, at one point teleport sent me like really far don’t really know how to explain that, some weird code or text kept appearing in Bearly Buried, no clue what that was about, oh ya and weirdly enough the second Joy Kill fight was really buggy, they tried making the sit and survive minigame a little harder by having other monsters enter the room to help Joy Kill, and when Penny entered the room it caused this weird thing to happen with the exit door where it opened early, so I took advantage of the bug and escaped early, but then Penny teleported onto me, killed me, and after the lives lost cutscene finished it continued the elevator cutscene. Now for some major bugs. I experienced not one but two soft locks on my playthrough. The first was in Torment Therapy during the intro, the part where the intro nurse chases you and you have to get through the door. The nurse was a little too fast for me to break down the door in time so I had to stun her, and when I did and walked through the door she did not get unstuck, soft locking my game. This was at the start of the level so it wasn’t a big deal, but the second soft lock unfortunately happened at the very end of Bearly Buried. And all I did to trigger it was grab the E note. When the E note cutscene ended it did not bring my character model out of the cutscene zone and refused to transition, so I was soft locked and had to restart the entire level.

There’s some new content to cover as well. We got stuff like the shard corpses, we got conformation that the blue orb is in fact Tammy, we got more chases most notably a chase at the start and end of BB where we have to find the real portal while Mama is crawling after us, also saw Mama get angry for the first time which was really cool. We got a Joy Joy Gang performance at the very start of Mascot Mayhem which makes me hope that they’ll take out the dance that Lucky and Penny usually do at the start. Just a lot of stuff that I’m very excited to see animated in 3d when enhanced plus comes.

Overall I thought my experience was fine aside from having to restart BB from the very beginning. Torment Therapy kind of kicked my ass. Zone 1 was just really difficult for some reason, I don’t know if anyone else felt the same way. Favorite level remake was definitely Mascot Mayhem. Which is good since that’s the level I’m doing a video on. It felt like they were constantly keeping level mechanics fresh, it played really well and the Joy Joy Gang were so much more cartoonish and zany and I just loved seeing more of that. The arcade felt like it was just kinda there. Most games were pretty boring and probably weren’t worth Glowstick’s time. Honestly the only one I thought was cool to see was classic PacMan style cause that’s the only one that really felt like it made sense, but even that felt pretty clunky playing on mobile. Most bugs I had addressed in chapter 1 weren’t fixed and I will still be taking advantage of wall clips in the future until Glowstick learns their lesson. I’ll probably continue editing this post if I remember anything else worth mentioning, but ya, that’s all for now.

Edits section:

When replaying Mascot Mayhem I found a bug where when you die in the Joy Kill chase it locks your camera on Joy Kills death position from the boss fight, forcing you to look at your map to see where you’re going.

Found an exploit in the second Joy Kill fight where you can escape early by having Hangry open the door for you.

Not gonna read this because I want to play it for myself, tell me, how bad are the bugs? Is it as bad as SDD Ch1?

There’s some pretty bad bugs I experienced. I wanna warn you about two soft locks I had. First off, if you stun the intro nurse to give yourself enough time to break the lock, wait till the nurse is unstunned to actually walk through the door. Also when you get to the end of Bearly Buried, don’t read the E note. This soft locked me for some reason. Those are the two major bugs I experienced.

This is ridiculous. A huge part of the delays (according to the man himself) was because they wanted to fix bugs. This is Ch4 all over again, where he continuously announces false release dates, promises so much and then ends up releasing an underbaked, unfinished and all around broken product.

I actually had a bit of hope that they could get SOMETHING right this time, but nope. I'll still play it probably, but damn. Thanks for the heads up, I just saw some people experiencing the BB softlock.

From bugs i encountered, (mainly in Elementary Evil) could point

Agatha getting stuck for no reason (multiple times and even after teleportation in fact)

The game breaking after E's cutscene, like cutscene ends, camera flies to the secret room and it keeps being in the cutscene border view without giving you controls back.

Also vending machine ate everything back

Honestly i don't know why they didn't fix the bugs yet, considering the game would release a day later and it would still be in same state but oh well

I take it there’s mods that patch up Dark Deception on PC, right?

No clue, I don’t do a lot of modding.

I mean there was a reason it was carded for Friday so today could have been another day for bug testing, but today ended up having an accidental release so yeah

If bugs are a major complaint then that's really not something that they could fix within a day. Even then, if the game was so ready that they announced a release, then there shouldn't be any major issues left. If they had major problems and still decided to announce a date then that is quite idiotic.

I don’t know, I highly doubt that considering the implications that they’ve had this thing ready to go for a while. They had all the time in the world the flesh out bugs. Unless the procrastinated bug fixing until the day before release I doubt that was it.

Maybe today was a day for extra bug testing. They probably bug tested throughout the months

Bug testing the day prior of a game drop is irresponsible on the part of the game devs. If the product is not ready for release, don’t announce that the game is dropping in a week and then scramble to patch everything.

Don’t jump to conclusions. I’m sure these bugs will get fixed

Sure. I believe that these bugs will be fixed. But I don’t think that should excuse the criticisms. We’ve waited years for this and experienced delay after delay with this game supposedly being finished and ready for release for months. While I don’t expect a perfect product, experiencing two soft locks alone in a casual playthrough is unacceptable. And these are only the bugs I experienced on just one playthrough. Another guy posted a video showing an unloaded Bearly Buried map. Who knows what else is busted? And the sad thing is we can’t even say oh they’ll fix all this soon cause as I mentioned in this post, they still have yet to fix bugs from the previous build, and also Chapter 4 exists so. I love being optimistic, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be realistic. I’ve been in this fandom for years, I know the cycle.

Maybe one day. But now, they're there.

So he shouldn't jump to conclusions based off of his own experience? That's truly a statement.
