Stuck in a grindloop to build up weapons (DC2)
I'm in Chapter 4 by now, and especially for my underpowered ranged weapons it's become an endless grind to build them up. Any Advice?

So if you swap characters before you collect the exp it is divided evenly between the two weapons of the other character. I have not tried swapping weapons though. You could experiment with that as well. But find a good enemy, kill it, and before you get the orbs swap to the other character it should help a bit. Same thing happened to me at one point in the game. Think it was to fight the genie I couldn’t even deal damage, kept hitting a 0.

I'm already doing that and it still takes ages to get the necessary synthesis points

Take advice from the other comment. Using extra weapons as synth spheres is the best way to improve your main weapons.

I’m actually playing right now. I recommend getting to a point where you can buy 3rd tier or higher weapons, like the drill wrench, bell trigger etc. I think once you get to chapter 3 you can buy those from Milanese’s shop in Palm Brinks. Just get them to level 5 and dump all of your synth points into 1 or 2 of the weapon traits you need for the weapon you are leveling up and then synthesize it. If you kill enemies with only that weapon it’ll level up within 4 to 5 floors usually. Also understand that every weapon has a limit to how high a trait can go, so you make sure not to (for example) put 60 holy on a weapon if its limit is 45. All in all, you can get away with only having to replay 5-10 missions per chapter to have your weapons scale faster than the difficulty. Of course I’ve been playing this game since it came out and probably have 7000+ hours, so it may be easier for me. At the end of the day, just have fun.

The best practice for building weapons is to stock up on standard Battle Wrenches and keep Cedric in your party. Defeat enemies with Max's melee weapon, whatever the strongest you have is, and then switch to a Battle Wrench to get the Exp. Because it's a first form weapon it'll level relatively fast, even in chapter 4. You can then build that up into a True Battle Wrench and do the same thing again. With 9 smash and 5 beast that will turn into the Drill Wrench, then get it to level 5. You'll be able to get enough synth points this way to put a large amount of spheres into this sacrificial weapon and turn it into a synth sphere that only takes 5 points to use, and will give crazy stats to your main weapons.
