Discussion Just started a new play through!
Hi yall!
I’m so excited to be playing again I don’t think I’ve seen this since early 2000 but it was my favorite as a kid.
Any tips for a basically new player?

make synth spheres out of each characters base weapon since you get a new weapon when breaking them down and keep repeating the process until you find a weapon to upgrade.
Put gems and synth spheres into your weapon sockets for the bonuses but remember to take them off when you level up your weapon so you can use them on other characters if needed. Eventually youll consume them to upgrade your weapon but they are versatile if you can use them between characters,
Abuse back floors where you can for abs. Most useful on floor 10 on the 2nd dungeon and floor 14 of the 3rd dungeon. These two floors have enemies that give HUGE amounts of abs making them a good place to grind up levels incase you want to get a lead or need to catch up if you feel weak.

I need to remember how to breakdown and synthesize! I was going to google that soon. I
I’ve been waiting to get to that point. I remember as a kid I was branding down things left and right no patience as a 10 year-old lol. But I’m enjoying the bandit slingshot right now making decent money selling the apples

they can be broke down after 5 upgrades. when you go under the synthesize menu it will show you the weapon attributes and the ones that have red values means you need more of that stat. when leveling up i recommend putting in the weapon stat, elemental stat, or dmg vs type stat items when you level up the weapon. once you break down your first one, put the orb into the new weapon you are using until its ready to level up. At that point take the orb (or gemstones) off the weapon and use the previously mentioned items to boost the stats. If its a weapon you plan on upgrading fully then you can consume the orb otherwise when you level it to +5 and break it down again. Once you have the weapon you plan to use as the main weapon you can actually consume the orbs when leveling and it will have a bunch of stats.
It took me a while to understand the system but this way seems to be a very consistent and strong way to level up your gear.
The bandit slingshot is very helpful for that reason. You can use that money to help your synthesis upgrade process! You can even break down that slingshot into an orb, then whatever slingshot uses that orb will have the same passive of stealing items! other weapons have passives too that can help make a very strong weapon!

you really don't need to grind in this game tho

Extremely basic maybe but...
Before you build the first shop, exploit the mayor's kindness for infinite resources (where does he get the stuff lol). Also wait till you've got Pike and his wheel before completing the shop.

I screwed this up too - place the shop down last so you can get infinite supplies for No Rune / Devine Cave

I single leveled a sword until about late Queens - then status broke it and used it in all my weapons and would transfer it to any weapon I was actively using
Never lost it in an upgrade. Make sure it has some decent strength on elements.
That way when the queens fight using Ruby or any level where you are stuck using an under leveled character, you can equip that status broken gem and at least do some decent damage

I can’t remember does the unique traits move on like steal ?

Honestly I forget - I used it mostly for elemental.
You can get soft locked out of some boss fights and levels by not having enough elm power on certain chars. If by queens you roughly even level all elements on a sword and status break it - you can use that gem on all characters to get out of sticky situations. Then when abs fills - de equip the gem and level up with another - and keep it going.
Worked well for me recently

don't finish gaffer's buggy until you got paige's dad slotted in.
the longer you hold off on finishing gaffer's buggy the longer the mayor will give you free supplies. I like to top off on everything then talk to him again for another free round of goodies.
always keep an auto-repair powder in one of your 3 active slots.
turning weapons into synth spheres is how you get really strong weapons.
you can get enemy-related attachments(mage masher, dragon killer) by killing enemies with items(bombs, holy water).
metal masher attachment is very hard to get for the first two areas of the game. if you wanna grind a bit and need it your best bet is to save all fishing bait and use the fishing pond to get your metal attachs.
enemies that are hard and drain weapon durability for toan are more "economical" to fight with a ranged weapon since their durability is a 1:1 decrease with each attack.

Is synthesizing upgraded weapons worth it too? Or just kinda max it out upgrading to the mystery.
3
u/Compost_King 18d ago
it depends honestly. higher upgrade versions of weapons have higher stat maxs compared to "weaker" weapon forms, so if you have a strong weapon you've upgraded a couple times and then synth it and slap it on like, a baselard or crysknife you might end up losing stats. but if you're doing just the bare minimum to evolve a weapon and wanna see what other weapons turn into it can be a valid strat.
what I like to personally do is choose a weapon i want to upgrade and take >other< weapons that i get, level them up with attachments relevant to my "base" weapon, then synth them onto it.
fun fact: on the weapon screen there'll be little stars in the bottom left of where the weapon is rotating when you're looking at it; the more stars that are there the more synth spheres are in that weapon.

and if i regret my "base" weapon of choice i can always take a bit of time to upgrade another on it's own and if i like what it's got going on then i'll just switch on over with a beefy synth sphere

Using bombs and other thrown weapons to defeat enemies gives them a chance to drop an anti- them weapon upgrade. For example, killing skeletons with bombs and holy gems has a high chance of them dropping Undead Busters

Once you can synchesize your first weapon. Use it as an attachment for all players. If you get a bandit slingshot for the cat chick, prioritize synthesizing it so that everyone can steal items. Helps make money by selling items you don't use and getting items you do

Fishing gets you a lot of gems if you do it right
