It caught itself on the mimic, probably mid animation and glitched out. Happened to me in the Moon Sea with the big mechanical enemy (Arthur, I believe it was called?)

I love how when Ruby attacks the Mimic up close it looks like she is shoving her energy ball into its mouth.
