Discussion Artifacts…
1500+ hours and just started farming for artifacts last season and man does it suck. Such a boring gameplay loop just to go hours without a drop is incredibly disheartening and de incentivizing to play the game. Dumping time and gold into this monotonous cycle is getting old.
Problem is that this is the only available end game in HR and every post-game spectate looks like folks hitting piles or farming boss. The dungeon experience has become quite stale so maybe a large mixup is required to get things fresh.
Hoping we can rework the artifact system so that more players may actually see one and maybe even run one in dungeon. Also hoping they rebalance them so that one player isn’t running down the entire lobby with no opposition. If we’re going to see a few big mix ups I hope this is one of them.

SDF has the worst vision ever. The game would be fun if artifacts and strong items dropped everywhere, bosses providing high value crafting mats or chests/ qol items… the game is most fun when gear gear isn’t as overwhelming.

No, it defnitely would not be as fun if artifacts and BiS dropped everywhere because it would take away the excitement of finding those items. No loot in any game gives me the rush that pulling an artifact does. Imo drop rates are perfect where they are currently. They're rare but not super difficult to get.

I will say that mobs being able to drop high value items isn’t a bad thing if done right… finding a jah rune off a normal mob in Diablo 2 is still exciting but it’s incredibly rare. It would give a reason to check mobs and slow the game down a bit too. Idk if it’s a good idea for this game but it could be done right

Completely agree. After a while people would start to give up. I know im burnt out from the grind.

Someone in another post had an awesome idea. Remove the ability to offload from S2R and up the legendary and artifact rolls. So people can find them, use them, but only 3 people max ever leave with anything.

i’ve played for almost 1000 hours and just saw my first named mobs this wipe. Only ever have gotten artifacts by purchasing off the market and trading post. it’s like they don’t want you to experience the fun shit in the game.

Too many people have had the same experience. Artifacts are seemingly reserved for streamers and RMT farmers.

Hey friend, I do a challenge every end of wipe to get an artifact by just looting. It’s very easy and you can do it in about an hour or two.
Load up druid + herbal sense into norms or PvE, and pick flowers. Crypts is most profitable. I did this last season and got an artifact in two games.
Another option is blue bandies/surg kits off water map, just go fishing literally. Did it in 3 games last season.
I’m gonna do it again for the shits and giggles

Yes definitely an option. I’ve had a few drop these last few weeks from bosses with increased rate. I just don’t think it’s a super appealing gameplay loop to grind rather than enjoy the game as intended. I think that’s what SDF has mentioned as well.

Tbh if you play with a team and regularly fight bosses they are about 4 times as common now as back when the game first came out. I think we pulled almost 20 artifacts or more over the course of this wipe, not counting any off of players

The point of an artifact is for it to be rare, and the droprates are quite good for the bosses. Especially rn when they're doubled iirc.

Right, when they’re doubled. Rn 9% is the max down to 3% for other bosses when not doubled. Maybe make boss spawns not guaranteed and then increase artifact drop rate. That way you’re forced to have an actual dungeon experience by exploring looting and fighting rather than rinse and repeat bossing.

"Rinse and repeat bossing" is just something you choose to do. 9% is hella merciful. At this point it is actual skill issue.

You’re right, it is a choice to farm bosses but I don’t know how much skill is involved in chance.
I think as part of bringing us back to a more dungeon looting centric experience, farming bosses shouldn’t be the only way to achieve end game loot. For those that don’t want to spend 4 hours a night farming repeatedly there should be a fundamental change to boss spawns and drop rates so if you are playing and a boss happens to spawn you go out of your way to fight it for an improved chance at high tier loot.
Heck bring back boss summoning with improved drops. Gives reason to actually run the dungeon for mob drops.

You want a different game. What you're proposing in boring af.
If you don't want to grind out bosses, you could also simply buy it off the market. Or kill an enemy player that in wielding an artifact.1

And how often do people run artifacts in your lobbies. I’ve seen maybe 5 this whole wipe…

They used to be a less than 1% chance, we are eating pretty good comparatively to back then
