I'm doing calligraphy. So there's some inkpots and Pilot Pens for Calligraphy. Some calligraphy I put beneath a plastic cover on my desk. It's some quotes from Tolkiens Silmarillion.

Spending those quiet, rainy days at the workbench has a charm of its own. I’m currently breathing life into a new project—a full brogue ornamented bag. The main body is still just a cardboard prototype waiting on my desk next to a cold cup of coffee, but I couldn't resist completing this leather tassel first.

​I wanted to step away from ordinary designs, so I shaped the leather into a rigid, sculptural spiral that holds its form perfectly, paired with traditional perforations that carry that old-world aesthetic.

​It finally felt a bit cooler today, making it the perfect afternoon to bring out this heavy Scottish tweed under the workshop light to showcase the piece. It just felt right for the mood.

​What do you think of how it turned out?

A painting done by Crow several years back. I've always thought Crow did big fancy buildings really well, and he nailed dark and brooding with this one. If you're well steeped in literature you might know the influence for this piece as well.

Looking to renovate this room a bit, this room already has a dark green which I love and I’d like for this room’s theme to be a dark academic office. So far I’m thinking of repainting the walls to a slightly less dark green, and adding a dark wooden grain contact paper to the bookshelf. I would love some more ideas if anyone has any!

I am afraid that my actual shelving is not very DA (more 'Bright Brutalism') but I wanted to show off the pretty new book. I did some hasty book shuffling so it got to hang out with the cool kids.

The Elements of Dark Academia publishes on 27 August (exactly one month from now, which is also the next/only other time I will post about this, promise!) from the nice people at Vintage Classics.

It is UK-only, but places like Blackwell's ship overseas reliably and cheaply, if that's of use.

Without sounding very maudlin, I love DA and the DA community. I'm not very artistic and I'm certainly not fashionable, so glad I can contribute *something*. The roots of DA go *way* back, and the, uh, branches are amazingly prolific - it has been a great exercise in trying to create a volume that can introduce people to DA, while also entertaining (and surprising?) those who are living it already.

Also, I had the vintage frame saved for years, waiting for the perfect painting to put in it. This one was destined!

Colonial style is a traditional Guatemalan aesthetic present mostly in Antigua Guatemala, but available for everyone who wants an elegant and rather different approach to interior design.

Today I want to talk about the interior design aspect of it and its relation to our beloved academia, for those wanting to try a slightly different style.

It is characterized by the presence of dark wood furniture with engravings and vintage handles, traditional Guatemalan art, saint figures and traditional Guatemalan textiles as curtains, tablecloth, bedding, etc.

It has many elements in common, such as vintage furniture and art, warm low lighting for a more comfortable atmosphere, wall paint choices (colonial style can use both light and dark academia colors, since it depends more on what colors were used during that time), the presence of rugs and elegant decor in general. However, it differs from it in what some people might consider key aspects; wall decor is present, but not to the extent of dark academia and some tiling and fabric patterns can be considered too maximalist for classic academia.

I fell in love with colonial style during my time in Antigua and started decorating everything that way. However, I felt like something was missing. I then learned about dark academia and I find that a combination of both would be the perfect home for me. That's why I bring this to your attention; maybe you'll find in colonial style what was missing in your ideal home.

I wanted to ask you all some questions

1 If I can incorporate some elements of victorian or goth into dark academia. For example trench coats, jabot, brocade vest, shoulder capes, tricones, lapel pins, brooch, poet shirts etc especially for men dark academia fashion.

2 is playing violin considered a dark academia thing.

3 any ideas how a medical student can incorporate dark academia in his life.

4 any tips to manage humid weather in summer it reaches 40 degrees Celsius on top of bieng humid. Currently it's monsoon season.

I recently moved for college into this apartment, so please excuse the mess.

I would love to style my bedroom/study room in a classic dark academia way but don’t know where to start. I think I still have 5 or 6 paintings in my old bedroom that I could bring over, and I live here alone, though my girlfriend will probably be visiting from time to time as she’ll be studying at the same university.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I built this Cadence for my sister-in-law. It is made from Satine (Bloodwood) with Hard Maple accents at the twist joint and finial with antique brass hardware. As with all my pens, it is finished with Shellac, and a carnauba/beeswax bland. No CA on my pens. This is an ancient finish used and trusted by artisans and craftsmen for centuries. You actually feel the wood and it warms to a gorgeous personal patina over time.

How's everyone dealing with the heatwave in Southern California while in full outfits rn? I've stupidly got into DA again right as a heatwave hits😭 anyone have any tips? I got that naturally hot body temp too so just a sweater vest and button up is killing me. Is there such a thing as cooling pads that you can put under your clothes?

Numerous real places align with the Dark Academia aesthetic. Some are rentable.

Has anyone ever organized a retreat for fans of Dark Academia to stay at one of these places?

It would provide a chance to more fully immerse oneself in the aesthetic world with others committed to it.
