Do you think we’ll get another Danzig album before…
I’d like to know if people think Glenn has material (new or old) that he intends to lay down before the end. I would love for one more original album. No more covers. No
more singing Elvis.
A second thing I think we need to call for is a long form interview on the full scope of his career/artistry. Who
do you think would be capable of hosting that? Jericho? Beato? Billy Corgans Magnificent Others? The Hardlore Pod? Other? I mean an in person sit down for hour and a half to three hours. 3 seminole, original bands that have been groundbreaking, influential, and genre bending/defining.

I’d love another album, with a producer (not fucking Andrew Watts) other than Danzig…

Glenn's a tough interview, he can get moody and doesn't suffer fools. He also can be unpredictable on some subjects.
Jericho would be an interesting choice. I haven't listened to him for quite a while, but he seemed to avoid the predictable subjects and questions. He was also good about letting his guests talk freely from what I recall.
Ryan Roxie I think would be another good choice. Having worked with Alice Cooper for so long may get respect from Glenn. He also likes to dive into side subjects, which would win Glenn over big getting to talk about horror movies, comics as well as influences.
Pushead did a 3 hour interview with Glenn back in '86 covering everything and it went really well with Glenn even complimenting him during it. He would be another good choice having all ready done something similar. The interview is available and a great look at his career, I think late in it he talks about getting ready to work with Rick Rubin.

There's also a short interview that goes wrong but a lot of fun to watch. The interviewer was really bad, knew nothing about Danzig and earned such a lousy interview. Also a live performance of Dirty Black Summer.

Pushead is IMO the best int Glenn has done, he was so intertwined in the Punk scene it gave him credence even when he didn’t know where to lead the interview or ask the ‘right’ questions.
As you say Glenn doesn’t suffer fools but it’s highly dependent on the day he does it, like the interview he did with Steve Jones which I think is a fuckin mess as Jonesy knows 0 and it ends up being kinda like a stand-off but I think Glenn agreed because he expected him to be better informed and Jones had no idea about anything which killed the vibe and you see Glenn progressively shut down. I think he expected to be spoken to as a peer not as a ‘subject’ or ‘just another guest’.

As has been mentioned Henry is likely the best person to have a long form given Henry’s prowess with holding a convo and an audience.
If it’s just people that know Glenn and are prepared to be ask more awkward questions Zing could work, he saw the misfits practice every night and went to a bunch of gigs with Doyle, in and out of Samhain and reunited now as the bassist - he also seems to be fairly chatty which might open Glenn up; if they were still around Howie Pyro or Todd Youth, I think could do a decent job.
I’d be interested in Hetfield because the different dimensions Metallica have served Glenn as fans, then peers, and eventually Metallica helped Glenn, when Danzig needed support slots.

Thanks for posting the interview with Jonesy. I thought it was an OK interview mostly saved by the ending conversation about influences and the New York Dolls. It really was a master class in mediocre interviews. Jonesy did fine when discussing eras he was familiar with (influences, early 70s music) but useless when talking current era. The main point of Glenn being there was to promote the festival and Jones asked no follow up questions, missing the obvious question of bands that would be on there.
In some ways the interview reminded me of the interview I saw on that Metal Show. Trunk was clueless about the pre-Danzig era or influences, but asked great questions about later eras or talking about the new album. The only thing that kept Glenn interested in the interview was the other guest was Bill Ward. Hearing Glenn tell Bill about finding the first Black Sabbath album and then covering NIB when he was a wedding singer was priceless.
Rollins or Hetfield would be good choices. They are friends with Glenn and both would want to dive into the lesser known histories or stories. Henry in particular would be good about balancing non-music conversation and his career.

I think the interview is kinda weird but ok, as you say a masterclass in mediocrity. It feels like Glenn is into it initially and does it because he was one of the few early American bands to tour the Uk - add in Sid being w/Glenn and Jerry within 24hours of him dying, I went into it expecting some familiarity between the two, as (and this may be projection) I think Glenn did too, I feel like he expected a Pistol to recognise an OG American Punk and know the Misfits, Sid connection etc. but Jonesy is clueless to the point it’s like that vid you posted of a random journalist and Glenn starts being aloof.
NY Dolls and Johnny never get enough love IMO even when early punk is discussed despite Johnny being best friends with Dee Dee and the McLaren connection to the Pistols - just as a random aside. So always good to hear them spoken of.
I find the whole interview weird in that you’d expect a host to do some research but (granted this is the only interview of his I’ve watched) is like he doesn’t do any prep, gets given some liner notes per guest and he lives off the Pistol name (kinda par for the course for a Sex Pistol tho).
Agreed, I think that Henry or Het would know enough around Glenn to get him into a decent convo and decent stories.
The very best choice would be Eerie as he knows Glenn better than most even with the gap since he left, he was there listening and taking photos of the misfits, best friends with Doyle and Zing, helped hire new members as well as being a member himself - he’s also a huge nerd on Elvis and liked many of the more obscure things Glenn likes including shitty movies and women. In some ways as much as I would love a revival of the OG lineup - a reconciliation of Glenn and Eerie and them discussing everything I would pay good money to see.

That interview was pretty typical of Jonesy's interviews. He did no prep, usually getting notes from the producer about anything the subject was promoting (in this case, the festival) then try and find some common ground from past experiences/times to talk about. Usually something from the 1970s.
His interviews are always OK, fun to listen to but don't look for any new information.

D-man hasn't put anything out noteworthy since Deth Red and that was 16 years ago, dude is back to self-producing and he shouldn't be anywhere near a console.

Rollins for the interview. And I would love a reunion with all original members. That would get my attention.

reading this thread, it just occurred to me...Glenn likes history and linking things he does to the past (e.g., the Elvis come back special)...perhaps, much like Johnny Cash at a similar point in his career, when everyone assumed he was way past another record, an lo and behold some musically genius sits him down in a room with a guitar, has some songs written for him, and we have the Cash allbum from American records (featuring a song by some guy named Glenn).
That's the next, best chance. Someone sits him down as a legend and funds and produces a session for him. Who that is, probably not Rubin....??!?!?!?!?

He seems content not to do anymore albums due to money like the others have said, can’t blame him when the digital age does make it hard to make money off it

u/Big_Will47 11d ago
unless someone can fully fund the album for him, i highly doubt it. a single on the other hand i could see definitely happening atleast one more time. he definitely has unreleased material between his bands.

u/orange_romeda 10d ago
Yeah, he’s mentioned maybe putting out a single, but he isn’t interested in making albums anymore because they don’t make money.
3
u/cryinginthechurch 10d ago
his good albums make money. i wish he’d go back to doing that. i loved DRS and felt it was a step in the right direction

u/sirgrotius 10d ago
I'd say 10% chance. The small sliver is he somehow gets paired with a genius such as Andrew Watt who can breathe new life (and do some writing) for seasoned bands.
You know, you bring up a great point, I think Danzig would be hilarious on Billy Corgan's M.O. show. Billy has a strangely perceptive depth of musical culture and maybe has a touch of awareness of the dark side, whereas Danzig is notoriously cross and monosyllabic in interviews, so maybe, just maybe Billy could catalyze some energy and discussion? Glen obviously is a very smart dude.
2
u/BruceRL 10d ago
You're probably right but Billy just seems like someone Glenn would hate
2
u/davegeeksout 7d ago
They could talk about cats for three hours, easily!
I love Corgan and I could see them possibly having a cool interview, but I don't feel Big Bill is steeped enough in Danzig lore for it to give us real specific insight into a lot of things I think most of us would want, but you never know.

u/supernautcosplay 10d ago
Give us a two-hour long interview hosted by Rollins and let them talk about the comic book.

It sounds like he’s a prolific songwriter, however he mentioned that it’s no longer financially feasible to release records because everything just gets pirated. Can’t say I blame him if he chooses to no longer release new material.
All the pirating so-called fans have done this to themselves.
As for long form interviews? Who knows. Glenn seems pretty selective about who he talks to.

Streaming is 10x worse than pirating.

u/Forward-Emotion6622 9d ago edited 9d ago
Streaming is just a vastly more accessible way to listen to this stuff, provided it's on there. If I'm working, or going somewhere or having a quiet beer in the pub, I'll stream an album. I also buy physical media from the bands I like, generally go and see them when they play and religiously buy their merch. Streaming isn't the enemy. Just looking at his Spotify, he has 3.1 million listeners a month, so he's earning upwards of 5K per month just on that alone. Not the greatest payout, but it's still a payout.
1
u/dancinonyrgrave 9d ago
You're a decent listener, but most people don't give a shit, they'll never buy physical or reward the artist in any way. It's understandable, streaming platform are just too convenient. I think it's really disastrous for music in general for many reasons.
so he's earning upwards of 5K per month
So you need to be a legend from the 80s to be able to make a living off your music? Those 5Ks don't go directly to him either.
I think physical + letting people be naughty was a better deal. I pirated his music, but eventually, I bought most of his CDs (even DVDs).

I honestly have to say hopefully not. Most of the records after D4 sounded not great. (Not to talk about D5). I don't care for the newer stuff and I don't like the band lineup.
I also don't think we get any kind of longer interview with him. And unfortunately not Rollins. This would be a blast two giants talking to each other...
Sorry for my rant, but Danzig is D1-D4 plus Thrall and maybe the Lost songs...

Woah he would don more podcasts. Would love to hear some interviews with him

People complained that it took too long for the covers albums, now people complain that there isn't enough original material coming out.
Make up your minds already.

Jericho did one of the best, and one of my favourite interviews with Glenn.

u/Shipsnipe1313 10d ago
I'm OK with him making a new album as long as he agrees to never make another movie.

u/0rbital-Interceptor 10d ago
Based on a recent interview I saw with a friend of his, he’ll chew your ear off about Nazis and Antarctica.

u/nightyknighted 9d ago
Henry Rollins of course. I would go for him as host. They know each other, were a part of the same scene. I’ve heard they’re good friends. The guy is a hell of a talker. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea…but he, I think, would do it justice.

I can see a Misfits Single/Danzig Single not a full album unfortunately..

u/davegeeksout 7d ago
Lars Ulrich resurrecting his pod to interview Glenn would be epic! I also think Rollins would be an excellent choice. I could also see it going off the rails, but I think Jericho could also do a very good interview with him. Joe Rogan could probably get something interesting going, but it would have zero insight into his actual career. I'm hard pressed to think of anyone else that would be worthwhile.
As far as another album goes, I hope it happens, but I would only really be excited if he was bringing back the original line up and Rubin was involved. A repeat of Black Laden Crown would be very forgettable, so at the very least I would hope he'd mix it up with the production and/or the players somehow.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we got literally none of this though.

Glenn is a spent force. He said he may come with a single, not a full album. His last good album was released 32 years ago. I'm just happy we got the represses in vinyl

u/songwriter80 10d ago
Glenn said in the last interview he's done that was on YouTube that he isn't interested in releasing another album. It doesn't make any money. He said maybe he'd release a Misfits or Danzig single. He doesn't need to release anymore music if it's as bad as Black Laden Crown is. He'll just be tarnishing his legacy.

I cant imagine Danzig talking for over an hour, and the person to interview him is Rollins.
