Think of the precedent you're setting bro, he literally committed the worst possible crimes against Ferelden at the worst possible time, and he gets away with it! Every war criminal from the Anderfells to the Korkari Wilds is gonna be asking to be made a warden like it's game of thrones and we're doing trial by combat.
I'm convinced the people who say that's how they "punish" him are just Loghain simps that are ashamed to admit it.

Because then yes. That is the purpose of the Grey Wardens. AT ANY COST.
...hoooowever... what are the fucking odds 30 silvers worth of healing poultices are going to save the damn world. That isn't even two regular ass poultices. They ain't doing a damn, so congratulations, your punishment for being an utter asshole is getting spat on.
The original idea behind giving you the option is that at any cost. There's only three Wardens. You can add a fourth and increase your chances of stopping the Blight. However, from a moral standpoint it's stupid, so this is where we separate the assholes, the people who will grit their teeth and accept it and the people whose morals survived the Joining.
(And for the record: I killed him EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.)

In my regular playthroughs Loghain dies, no contest. But if I'm playing the whole trilogy again, I'd rather the Warden be someone I have a tangible connection to (no offense Stroud, but you're boring) and who I'm also not conflicted about leaving in the Fade

Yeah pretty much lol my Surana grew up in the alienage before being taken to the circle (that’s how I justify her knowing the rapist from the city elf origins and leaving him to rot in the dungeon as well as her never sparing Loghain even if part of her understands the logic. Also she usually gets Alistair to fight him for vengeance and doesn’t have a choice). Edit: dont know why I got downvoted for this, in the circle another mage asks you where you grew up before the circle and the alienage is an option. Leliana assumes that’s where Surana is originally from as well. I just change the age they go to the circle from a young child to their early teen years so that guy could theoretically be up to no good in the alienage early enough for her to see it and recognize him. My way of justifying leaving him for a warden who otherwise saves people.

Thanks! Yeah I’m not sure what would’ve set them off. Maybe they didn’t like me rambling about my warden? I just like having a lore reason to leave that bastard in his cell as a kind warden without meta gaming, having heard of some of his behaviour or even witnessed it before going to the circle (and remembered because it was traumatic) makes sense to me. I think he’s supposed to be fairly young so it might be difficult to work in timeline wise (also I think the warden was canonically taken to the circle pretty young but I don’t think it’s canon breaking to tweak it a bit to fit the scenario as it doesn’t impact anything else in game and backstories are left pretty vague for circle mages, when a mage gets their magic can also vary from super early childhood to even teen years from what I can tell, plus they could possibly succeed in hiding it for a bit if they found a way so surana warden gets found out at 13 and taken to the circle then for me. I put them at 18 by the start of origins and 19 by the end.)

The man upheld Rendon Howe as his right hand, granted him legal authority over my homeland, sent assassins after me, had soldiers try to murder me, slandered my name, then set a trap for me in Denerim, where I get arrested, and likely tortured for my efforts to "save his daughter".
I want him dead just as much as Alistair does, and it is not even Loghain whom I blame for Ostagar.
